I will join you this month if I may, aiming to keep spending to a minimum and doing well working through the food cupboards. Wednesday is my day off and I usually head to the shops pretty early to stock up, but today I'll be meal planning from what we have for the next few days and aiming only to pay cash for food this month to keep better control. There will be as many NSD as possible along the way (although a houseful of teenagers almost cleaned me out of bananas yesterday evening so that's something I will have to get:()0

Day two NSDs
I have found that sometimes what you miss is the walk to the shops, (if you walk that is) and now instead of turning left outside my house to wander and spend in the local shopping presinct I turn right and a short walk away I have Cozenton Park and library which is great, as a book and a stroll in the park with a flask or bottle of cold drink bought from home with said book
:) is a great way to have a bit of excercise and fresh air and hang on to your pennies.Plus there are no shops at all in that direction which may tempt me
:):)
Every little helps, and a bit of 'cod psychcology' and rethinking saves me cash:):)

:T Cheers for the reminder about the blackcurrants. I shall harvest some from the allotment tonight. And some broad beans, too.
Spends in July;
1st July - £10 archery lesson. 2nd July - nowt. I have had a NSD, go me!
I dropped in to visit a shopkeeper friend on my way home from work, something I like to do 2-3 times a week. We have a cuppa and a natter; I don't buy there (it's a curio emporium) but he's an interesting old feller and I always learn something new on each visit.
Thing is, he's a few doors from a charity shop, and I exited his shop and automatically turned towards the chazzer, then stopped as I've remembered I'm not shopping this month, if I can help it.
Fridge is thinning down and have revealed that the glass shelves really do need a good clean, which I will do shortly. Easy to notice these things one it's not packed with stuff.
It's amazing to try to add up the amount of time spent shopping and wonder at the freedom of just walking past stores, even charity shops, disinterestly thinking I don't do shopping.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Nice to see you, too, craigyw. I have posted on this thread before (or an earlier version?) but that was last year, I think. Must be a fab year for blackcurrants, mine have gone insane, nearly breaking the branches and each one is soooo big! And would you like me to move in with you and help you eat all that yummy food?
I'm really liking the idea of NSDs. It's sort-of slotting in with a blog I'm reading a lot since a forumite called short_bird recommended it; mr money mustache.
Lots of interesting stuff there about low-cost living and all sorts of good stuff, highly enjoyable.
I find I like the idea of using up, seeing the back of the freezer, using what you have. It's often easier to actually buy more stuff than use what you have, particularly if you don't have quite the ingredient to make it hang together as a meal, but it's worth getting it sorted and eating what you have. Wastefulness should be the 8th Deadly Sin, IMO.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Day three today
:)
I managed to go to Maidstone with DD yesterday and never opened my purse once (not even my one with happy cash in )DD bought a nice dress and two tops and a lovely lunch for her and her old Mum:):) bless her.We sinned and had pulled pork rolls with coleslaw and chips (not keen on chips so I didn't eat them) and strawbobs and cream to follow.Filled me up so much I didn't want any dinner last night so that counteracts my S&C sin
:):)
Today I am no where near a shop as I have to wait in for my gardener to arriver mid morning then after lunch I will go to my Dds and prep her meal for tonight then sit on the decking and have a read while wainting for DGC to get home from school.Nothing as yet on my shopping list to buy that can't wait another day or two
It is so liberating not being tied to a routine of shopping isn't it,especially when the weather is so glorious, why be hoofing round a hot shop when you can be sitting in the garden doing nothing:):)
great to see more and more folk joining us
Cheers chums onwards and upwards
