Not as frugal a day 3 but used Xmas cash for:
Charity shop football boots (DD2 lost her boots and is devastated she wearing 2nd hand but saved a fortune in sports direct!) £4.00
Ham (reduced) to make pinwheels for tonight, milk, 6 Pepsi max and reduced Xmas snacks £4.42
DD2 looking much harder for football socks in her room now she knows she is buying a replacement pair if she has lost them as well!
£8.42 leaving £1.38 of the Xmas money left.
Off to friends later and grazing so that helpful, and made 40 iced gingerbread snowmen FREE all ingredients in cupboard for DD1 party at her friends house later.
Very Happy New Year to All X0 -
Hi everyone, lovely to see this thread busy with posters 'old' and new, it's the time of year I guess, time for new resolutions financial and otherwise!
Peony, your circs sound similar to mine, although I'm 55 and still working part time, it's been so hard to save over the last few years, we need a new boiler next year and I really don't want to dip in to savings, we have made no pension contributions (except NI for the OH) for about 10 years now, so really need to conserve what we have and hopefully add some.
I will be looking to FF from about 12th January, when DD returns to Uni but reading with interest until then.
Have a lovely evening everyone, I'll be taking DD to a party then settling down with the OH, DVD from the library and a glass of wine. See you all in 2014!0 -
Hi All, I would love to join in but can you let me know the 'rules' please. Only DH working to support 4 adults, 2 dogs and 2 cats so trying to be as frugal as possible.
Many thanks and apologies for being dim!0 -

The fiscal fast was broken today as I needed a few bits. I'm not going to spend anything else until Friday when I have my big fortnightly shop so will have a mini FF. Will start again on Friday afternoon.
Take care all. Have to go. DH is pestering.
Do you think that you could wait till the next shopping day? If you have a fortnightly shop then that would not be too long. My system is to have really big quarterly shops for the long life items like toilet paper and canned items, and get fresh stuff locally weekly. So milk and eggs are always fresh if I only have to last a week. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

Happy New Year! Here is to a frugal 2014 for us all.
Phylis, ham pinwheels sound nice, will it be possible to have the recipe?
Millie, sorry to hear that you are in a similar situation to us regarding pensions and retirement concerns.
Hubby and I have made the decision to downsize in 2014. If all goes to plan this should help us with reducing monthly costs plus less housework for me to do as I struggle currently due to fibro.
Welcome to all the new people. I have only rejoined this thread myself the other day.
Need to get up. I will wear my onesie as I then won't need to put the heating on so soon. Also have a nice hot mug of coffee and put my light box on while meditating. Doctor recommended I meditate but I don't find it easy, my mind wanders all over the place, but I will perservere in 2014!
Have a nice day all.

Happy New Year everyone Hope you all are keen to be up and running with the start of a new year and month.
Today is day ONE of no spending and its not a problem.I am off to my youngest's for dinner tonight and she's short of carrots, but I have some in the fridge which will help her out no probs so I shall steer clear of any shops on the way there.
I have listed all of my food stocks and I just have my f/freezer to make new lists out for then I am up to date with everything
Hope we can all with mutual support get through the month without spending too much .MY food purse is firmly shut on the £60.00 nestling in there .This is for food alone and what's left over with go at the end of the month to my seperate Holiday Account savings.
Good luck everyone

Happy New Year everyone and its day 1 for me too, as I am still in my PJ's think it's unlikely that I will break it today. Like Jackie O I have spent some time listing everything in my cupboards and freezers and admit to the overbuying of just about everything, pulses and rice being particular ones and mixed beans for some reason!
I have big plans for this year as I head towards retirement at the end of the year, which is exciting and scary so am looking to reduce all surpluses.
Have just made a lentil curry for lunches at work and a chicken stock going on for chicken noodle soup tomorrow night. Tonight am dining out of the freezer.
Good luck everyone whichever day you are on.

Happy New Year :j
First day of no spending for me successfully completed and very proud of myself! DD's went shopping and asked if I wanted to join them, as lovely as it would have been to spend girly time with them I knew I would end up spending money so declined. They had a great time together though
I have also managed to transfer £44 from my account into my savings account as this is money that I haven't spent on food and I get paid again on Friday, so definitely no money can be spent now as I only have £3.57 left in my account :rotfl:0
