  • Hi everyone, hope you are nor snowed in for too long Erica - good news on the food parcel anyway you could do some meal planning with that!

I've done most Christmas shopping now except food, resisting non essential spends just now as our ch boiler is acting up - the OH thinks we need to replace it soon but we are trying to nurse it through the winter by only using it for hot water. We lit the oil stove (Rayburn) which heats the kitchen and takes the chill off the bedroom above, if it gets very cold or we have visitors we will also use the woodburner in the living room. I have some work until Christmas, so I'm hoping if we are careful we will have enough left in the winter savings pot to pay for a new boiler.

So, keeping eyes open for bargains and probably looking to FF in the New Year for a while.

I took some hm stuff to a small craft fair today, came home with £30, not a fortune but it all helps. I have to be v. disciplined and avoid buying anything! I did succumb to a small glass of mulled wine though.

Hope everyone is keeping warm and well.

Been a naughty girl and have not been sticking to this recently. Well I am home and have no intention of spending for the next seven days.

To all those celebrating I hope you all have a good Christmas.

A very Happy Christmas to everyone from me too

I am having a splendid time reading back through the entire thread and writing down all your fabulous tips and tricks. Lots of new ones for me.

The plan is to start a 7 day FF in January and then do one every three months. I counted up the contents of my roadkill jar today- 400 pennies. Ok not a fortune but it's not to be sniffed at:D

  • Merry Christmas all!

Still trying to be frugal, but very tricky with DD and friend at home, wanting endless baths, lifts and food!

Back in the New Year definitely. Meanwhile, good idea to re read the thread for inspiration.

Day 2 of my frugal fast.

I have been cooking loads of stuff so hopefully that will keep me going. The only thing I'm short of is bread but I have enough flour to make one loaf and a bit of a sliced loaf left so should be able to manage until Friday shop.

  • I have read this thread with fascination and admiration whilst seriously overspending in 2013. This year I must replenish my savings and my biggest downfall would appear to be the withdrawing of random cash from the ATM and trips to Mr. T for 'odds and ends' that becomes a£30.00 spend.
My DD's (x2) have been warned that from January 2014 their monthly allowance spent means NO MORE MONEY !!!
I have achieved DAY 1 :jMy well fed ex-mother-in-law has just gone home and all children chilled, hooray!
Tomorrow I am off to the local leisure pool with youngest son and friend and using some Xmas money from an Aunt to finance the trip. No more vending machine spends, I am going with small treats from a selection box and bottles of water from home!
I have meal planned a week and am using a surplus diary to write down every penny I spend this January !
I will read this thread for encouragement and as a motivation to keep the purse shut! :o
  • Good evening chums a quick heads around the door for me as I'm in transit between eldest Dds and youngest DDs (I popped indoors to make sure all was well and secure and to check my emails.)
Definitely a frugal new year start for me as I want to try and get my kitchen redecorated in the spring ,plus I know I spent a bit more than I meant to over Christmas, but hey ho we had a great one and now its belt tighening time once more.Starting on Wednesday I shall

    1. record all of my shopping faithfully
(one of my new years resolutions)

2.only buy stuff thats absolutely vital/essential
    (another resolution)

3.Use up stuff in the cupboards and freezer first if possible
    (yet another resolution.)

    4. Try to get rough the massive store of dried stuff I have in the cupboards ,why did I buy 5 kilos of past and 4 kilos of lentils ???:):):)

They have got to be used up if nothing else I can't get much more into my food stores anyway :):)
So roll on Wednesday and a new start of F/Fasting for me ,anyone want to join me ???
By the way have a very happy and frugal New Year chums ,see you all at some point on Wednesday :):):)
  • Wow what a shock when I gripped myself and added up all my outgoings and incomings and realised I had a whole £273.06 for a month of petrol (luckily I can walk to work), bus fare for school (no choice there) and food and anything else not being paid for by DD !!! No wonder my savings have been destroyed since my divorce 18 months ago!
Well here to a very frugal New Year I will be an addict to this thread and no doubt a grump at times too!
Thank goodness for Christmas vouchers and money to soften the blow for the children as I have decided not to count spends if it is in given money, vouchers or coupons!
I will be spreading out the cineworld vouchers big time! (and the Baileys ) !
    Here's to Day 2 tomorrow.
