  • I love soup, it makes me smile inside. Also Jacket spuds do this. I am doing okay. I had to buy bread and crossants today for the boys. And then oh oh, Cheese for DH as it was on offer, a cake, cookies and chocolate all reduced. So I felt okay. Thank god for the co-op, but I am not guilty for the cookies and chocolate madam put them in the trolley when I was talking to another mum.
But I feel for my son, he wants new shoes and he wont have cheap ones that have to be converse or vans or nothing!!! So I promised if he had a good week I would buy them for him. I bought him a cheap verson of toms and his mates wernt impressed!!!! I felt bad for him. But he knows its tough as we are down to one income, untill little lady starts school. I love him and I tell him every single day and I hug him and yes he is 15. But I dont want him to suffer. I wish I could just take both of the boys out and buy whatever they wanted, but they know I cant. Hence I feel bad all the time.
Little madam doesnt care, as long as she has hello kitty or her momin with her. I keep telling them just one more year and then I will go back to work. And I do miss it.
But we are plodding on with the fiscal plan. I hope I will start to feel a bit happier soon!!!!
Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

Lovely soup recipes - must make some for my lunch in a minute!

About mung beans - I use them instead of lentils quite often. And, if you soak them for a few hours and then rinse them regularly, you get lovely bean sprouts after a few days.

I always rinse them at least twice a day with lukewarm water, then store them in the dark in one of my cupboards. I do other beans as well, also peas. The marrowfat peas that come in little boxes or in bags (quite cheap in M*rr*s*ns) - always sprout well, and when they've grown a nice root and shoot, besides being lovely in a stir fry, will grow in the garden. I always grow peas, but have not bought "seeds" for years!
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!

Day 2 and holding on strong. Dinner is the second half of yesterday and lunch was a frozen chiili and rice pot that I portioned out and froze when we last had chilli. Off to raid the freezer for some chicken for a casserole tomorrow!

Well I've been kicking myself all day. I had two £5 notes in my jacket pocket last night - DD1 gave me change from a camping weekend she's going to on Saturday, and the other £5 was change from DS's karate. I forgot about them until today, but they weren't there when I went to check. I think they must have fallen out when I took my car keys out. I wish I'd remembered to put them away last night  So I'm £10 down and mad :mad::mad: with myself.:(
  • Ah, Justamum, that is so annoying - nothing more irritating. I ran after a lady who dropped a fiver in the cafe where I work yesterday, and then today after someone else who had left their glasses - keeps me fit, my job!

Winchelsea, thanks for the info on sprouting beans - I've been meaning to give this a try for a while now, we like stir fry. Might give it a go tomorrow.

Red Dragon Pie - that was exactly what I made, just with mung instead of aduki beans!

Everyone sounds like they are doing well with the Fiscal Fasting - Lisa you sound like you are heading for a record!

I had my 'day off' from the challenge today, spent £30 on groceries , including 2 bags of Quorn reduced price, which were not on the list, and a big bottle of cider for Mr MM. Was mostly fruit, veg, milk, eggs, bread, cheese and a few other basics. Had veg stew with cheese and crackers for dinner, and experimented with a bread and butter pud in the microwave -haven't tried it yet. Hoping the shopping will last 7 - 10 days. Might have been tempted to stop for coffee, but had been offered extra hours at work, so came straight home then off to work for 12.

Going to watch a bit of TV now and put my feet up. Have a good evening everyone!

Red lentils are good for fertility?? well i didn't know that!!! It's no wonder I fell so quickly for my 2 then, even after hubby was previously told he was infertile! (he was married before and on the waiting list for fertility treatment).
    Redlentil and garlic soup

    8oz red lentils
    2 onions, finely chopped
    1 carrot finely chopped
2 garlic gloves (i tend to use 5)
    2 bay leaves
    pinch oregano
    2 1/2 pints veg stock
2tbsp balsamic vinegar (or redwine vinegar)
    salt and pepper

put all ingredients except vinegar in a pan, bring to boil and simmer for an hr-1 1/2 hrs. keep stirring and add a little more stock/water if necessary. remove bay leaves, add vinegar salt and pepper and serve, preferably with fresh warm crusty bread (or a wholemeal pitta if you do sw;))
for those of you on sw it is free on green/ee. keeps well in fridge for a few days, freezes ok. recipe serves 6.

well i had to spend today:(, but i'm not including it. £15 on 2 prescriptions. I don't normally go to the dr, but i have somehow managed to trap my sciatic nerve, and it hurts...a lot:(.
other than that, i found 3 half chicken breasts in the freezer and used 1 half to make a chicken stir fry for the squids with a little left over to go in mini pittas for dd1's butty box tomorrow, have also chopped up an aging melon, kiwi and pineapple and a wrinkly orange, so she's got a bit of fruit salad tomorrow too. once that fruits gone, i have 1 pineapple left and that's it, although I do have stewed rhubarb, apple and apple and berry in the freezer from autumn, so not entirely fruitless. I used up the last of the floppy veg in the fridge to make myself a veg stir fry for tea, with a nearly ood sachet of sauce my mum gave me weeks ago. cabbage is lovely in a stir fry, btw:D
    freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:
  • Thanks for the yummy recipe lisakay. I'll have to wait til next week to try that one as I've already got enough soup to see me through this week.

Another NSD here. I'm just debating whether I can use a generic card for my mum for mother's day (very nice - but not a "mother's day" card IYSWIM) or whether I should pop to the shops and get her a specific card.

    Have a good evening everyone.

Poor you. I had that once and it is bloomin' painful. Prescriptions are pricey though  I don't think they cost that much over here.
