CATZNINE- wish i could send you some ham for your soup-got a bacon joint at weekend, have had it with mash and veg for tea,in a spaghetti carbonara and in our sandwiches at lunch.am now totally sick of it and theres over half left!!!
do you reckon it would freeze?then again, how would i re heat it after?

It is truly shocking the state my cupboards are in:eek: and do I really need 9 tins of rock hard processed peas? :rotfl: The only thing to do with them (that makes them edible) is to make pea and ham soup and I can only face that once a week, so 2 months of pea and ham soup sorted (if I only had some ham! lol)
I hope you don't mind a lurker on this thread popping in. But if your store cupboard stretches to an onion, some curry paste (any sort will do) and some dessicated coconut (or a tin of coconut milk, some creamed coconut or something similar) then I can recommend curried pea and coconut soup.
Chop and fry the onion. Then add the curry paste and the processed peas. Add veg stock (not sure how much - depends on how many peas) and simmer for 20 minutes. Blitz in the blender/with a stick blender, then stir in the coconut and heat gently for another couple of minutes.
We have a soup rota at work and I get asked for this one whenever its my turn!
Just to add - I am loving following this thread. I have quite a few NSDs and am thinking about having a go at the real fast once I get back from visiting my old mum this weekend.0 -
Ooh, 7WW, that sounds really good. and I have all the ingredients! I'll write it down in a minute.
Sorry I can't help with the bacon question, been veggie for too long now, although I would have thought it would be OK to freeze.
Agree about the library, Catznine, love a good book and use ours a lot. Hope you're feeling better now.
End of my first week, and feel like seeing if I can do better next week. Actually feels less scary having an unexpected bill (drains!) because there is spare money around.
Well done everyone cutting down/fasting - some great ideas coming up.
Dinner today was mung bean cottage pie - sounds like veggie food with a vengeance, but actually very nice - with last of frozen veg. I have an enormous tin of butter beans from AF to be used up, and about 3 years supply of mung beans - they were so cheap...0 -

There must be something in the air (maybe I should rephrase that) as I've just finished some aduki bean cottage pie (aka red dragon pie:eek:) that we had left over from last night!0 -
On 13 days no spends and counting! freezer and fridge looking decimated, but still enough in to get to the end of the week hopefully. used up the last of a jar of beef paste in the kids butties today and cooked a couple of extra sausages up at tea time for them to have on butties tomorrow and i think i still have a couple of homemade bread rolls. I also remembered the banana muffins I froze about 6 weeks ago so they can have one of those each as well. DH used up the last of the cheese this morning that i was going to use with spag bol or lasagne, but never mind.
I had the last of the bean casserole with mash and veg for my tea, it was really very tasty.
I still have stuff in, but I'm starting to feel the pinch now and running out of inspiration. saying that though, I often feel like this when I have full cupboards. If I can find a little bit of chicken in the freezer (I think there are a couple of half chicken breasts) the kids can have chicken curry and I shall have a tin of chickpea dhal that's been lurking in the cupboard for a while, with rice and garlic bread.
Off to have a quick rummage now, then an early night for me.

I'm still lurking here - picking up some useful tips ready for when I can have a good go at joining you.
I've defrosted some more friendship cake - was daft freezing it cos its so tasty we are eating it very quickly:)
lisakay - you are doing brilliantly:T 13days! wow!:money:Do what you love :happyhear0 -
OOoooh red dragon pie, I haven't had that in ages. I used to love it. I've been veggi for nearly 19yrs now and I love beans and pulses, they make for such a cheap tasty meal. I buy all my beans and lentils from an asian supermarket and they work out far cheaper than the sm. You've just got to remember to soak them the night before. Garlic is always pretty cheap in there too and i make a mean red lentil and garlic soup. If I can find it I'll post the recipe up tomorrow if you want it xfreecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0

I cook a whole 500g bag at a time then freeze them in a bag (just bash the bag before it's fully frozen so you don't end up with a huge frozen lump). Each 500g is equivalent to 5 tins, so when I want a tin of beans I just weigh out 8oz.0 -

MMm lots of talk of soup! I may do soup for dinner, though it would mean buying a french stick and deviating from my meal plan! Aggh! Nope, stick to the meal plan methinks, plus, I need to use up the caeser sauce before it turns :S
Did well yesterday, used up the last of the curly white pasta I can't eat on my DH, who loves it, and bulked out last nights pasta sauce with a tin of tomatoes nabbed from my mum and some fresh tomatoes on their last legs - yay for once I am not throwing out tomatoes!
I need to eat more lentils, apparently it is recommended as part of a 'fertility diet', so please do post your red lentil and garlic soup lisakay - I have both in my cupboardWe got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic.
