  • Thank You for the warm welcom JackieO. I plan to do another 'Fiscal Fast' after our Thanksgiving Holiday. I have some recipes from the Great Depression that are really cheap and wonderful. I would love to share them with all of you. Take care. <3 Erica Dawn

  • JackieO it is also grey, wet and horrible here too. We're getting a lot of rain right now. It may turn to snow if it gets cold enough. (Yawn... it is 6 in the morning here.) Take Care new friends!! EricaDawn

  • Day three with no shopping to get
Today I am going to make some parsnip and apple soup,I should have done it yesterday but ran out of time.My sis-in-law popped in to see me and as she is off to Mexico shortly to see my niece we sat and nattered away for a couple of hours.I have a bag of parsnip in the bottom of the fridge that need using and some apples that also need using up.I love this soup as its got a hint of spice in it as I usually stick a spoonfil of nutmeg or cinnamon in and its lovely to warm you up on a cold day for lunch its very frosty here this morning so hot soup with cheese and crackers will be lunch today .Breakfast is the last of the bananas and some museli.Tonights dinner is salmon steak from the freezer and mash and green beans also from the freezer so definitely no shopping needed.I did a lot of baking over the weekend and took a large Victoria sponge cake round to my daughters for her four boys to devour.Instead of using jam to fill it my youngest grandson asked if I could use chocolate spread and as I had some in a jar in the cupboard I used it up and he said it was delicious I am not a sponge eater so I'll take his word for it.There is enough left for them to take some in their packed lunch today for school so they are four happy boys going to school this morning with a chunk of Grannie's cake:):)
I dug out some of my old cook books and will be looking through them this week to see what little gems I can come up with.Keep up the good work chums

I also put some chopped apple in with my Spicy Parsnip Soup and it's a great idea - very 'moreish'. I also add some curry powder :D.

Hi Erica - there's lots of recipes online for Spicy Parsnip Soup and it's really very simple to make.

My OH had it in a restaurant in Scotland when we were on holiday. When we got home I decided to 'have a go' - my local supermarket ALWAYS has reduced price parsnips, so its usually one of the cheapest recipes for me to make. The hardest thing about it is deciding the right amount of curry powder to add ............. ;).

day 1 over and no spends very pleased with myself. fish from freezer and hm pasta salad and hm garlic bread for tea tonight. have to bring dog to vet his teeth need cleaned he stinks, so will get billed for that at end of month...does this count? as i technically not spending any cash, i cant cancel appointment as no one in house wants him near them and he starting to notice!!! i blame it on him being on a sugary syrup anti biotic for nearly a year to clear up hayfever!!! as he does not get chocolate or biscuits. anyway off now to get fish from freezer have a good day all xxx

  • Woohoo I've managed 6 days of nsd and its been great, it's shop day tomorrow so will be going through the freezer and cupboards before writing my list and menu plan based on what's already in.
I'm going to do a two week shop too to save me going in and risking spending more money.

  • Hi everyone! :) With Thankgiving over, I am going to see if I can do a fiscal fast starting tomorrow. I have plenty of food, and leftovers. For some reason everytime I plan to start a Fiscal Fast my brain automatically starts to say, "you can't do it." "That is going to be too hard." It just makes me more determined to do it.
To everyone on here I am rooting for you!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!
