Day 5 for me too Last of chicken for dinner today, sweet and sour with rice. Have taken half a pack of bacon bits, 4 sausages nd some bread out of freezer and will use that up by Friday so Nothing to go back in.

Am missing fresh fruit though, but I am determined not to get any until I have used up the tinned and frozen fruit I have in.

I am really quite enjoying this now and wonder if I can get as addicted to not buying food as I am to buying it, That would be really good. I must say the bitter cold is helping at the moment, dont want to go out.

I did it, I did it, I did it, 7 days and not spent a penny. by heck it was a struggle though. had to be stern with myself as really really wanted to go shopping.

Off to the market now with last weeks budget still intact and this weeks still in bank.

donnajt i dont think a prescription would count, neither does bills and rent/mortgage. I am wobbling. I am wanting to go get a bottle of rose', trying to talk myself out of it, but so far im losing. Ended up not going out last night, nor today for a coffee with my friend, so feeling a bit deprived - we shall see. On the plus side, my grocery spends this month are still intact.

  • Good Morning EDC well it is mid-morning in England and welcome to our happy band of money savers. I am so pleased that the message is spreading across the world.I bet you wouldn't swap our weather at the moment it's grey, wet and 'orrible outside right now.

I went shopping yesterday and did what for me was a 'big shop' and fingers crossed after reorganising my food stocks and listing all that I had I realised that with luck I won't have to go to the shops hardly at all until the New Year I am away over Christmas and New Year, dipping between my two DDs and their families, so really I did a menu plan for the next four weeks and apart from the stuff I already had in the cupboards and fridge-freezer I only really needed to do a top-up shop.
Fingers crossed that I will only have to buy maybe fresh milk and fresh veg and perhaps some fresh fruit which I can get from my local farm shop.So today is my Day One of NSDs until I run out of food !!!I have worked out my menus for dinners for at least four weeks and lunches will be light omelettes or HM soups and crackers.I hate shopping at this time of the year as its so busy and getting pushed and shoved in the shops is no fun when your my age and need a stick to walk with.I am quite looking forward to doing as many NSDs as I can and being creative with what I have in store.Luckily I am pretty good at streeetching stuff which helps and if I run short of meat its not a problem as I have lots of dried goods I can use for meatless days.
I normally budget for £100.00 per month, but as I have cash left over in my food purse I shall see if I can use that just for milk,F&V and with luck save myself even more cash.
So today I had for breakfast (from the freezer) a cinnamon bagel with some apricot jam on it and a sliced banana.I have to use the freshest food up first or it will go off.
In my fruit bowl I have left two bananas, five eating apples and two large oranges,so some of my meals will be planned around them as either the main bit, as I did this morning or as a pudding for after dinner .Lunch will be some HM leek and potato soup that I had half of yesterday so will finish off today and some crackers with a bit of cheese.Tonights dinner is a large chicken quarter that I took from the freezer which I have marinating in cajun spices in the fridge at the moment with a salad of lettuce, sliced cucumber, chopped radish and a tomato.I also have some sliced beetroot which will get chopped up small to mix in with my salad.I bought several cartons of OJ and fruit juice yesterday as I had about £3.00 in coupons for them so they will help with my five-a-day fruit if I run out of fresh stuff too quick.
I think we are all doing so well in these 'straightened times' and I only wish we had a button that could give a pat on the back to say well done to you all.
Cheers everyone keep up the good work
