Have you ever ventured into the freebies & comps section of this forum? There are literally thousands of greedy-grabbers doing exactly that, and with the backing of MSE.

Don't really read those sections although I remember one of the flour vouchers recently ended up in vents as MSE'rs where downloading and going buying 15/20 packs of flours discounted to 10/15p clearing shelves etc. The vouchers it transpired where intended for a charity cake bake..

    Greed knows no bounds.

A friend of mine ran an offer for his loyal regular customers recently, and within an hour of it being posted on MSE & hotdeals all 1000 vouchers for the free item had been grabbed. What upset him is that only 6 were used, all against the cheapest item he sold, and not one was a previous, or subsequently returning customer. He won't be running another offer unless he can identify a way that his genuine customers can benefit.
People just seem to want to take take take out of misguided principles rather than genuine need. To hell with anyone who could genuinely benefit from the offer as long as they don't miss out and can "grabbit while they can".

If you find greed like that despicable, don't ever venture into the Tesco mispriced thread. Clearing shelves like starved pigs at a trough!

As you stated yourself though you wouldn't have used the companies dating services as you didn't want a date. So you must be in the % of free trial takers just signing up to claim free offers with no intention of using the companies services ie wasting their time and costing them money. If there wasn't people abusing the free trial offers no doubt half the hurdles to get out of the subscriptions wouldn't be there.

And as I said before I took up Netflix not wanting a monthly streaming service but I ended up keeping it. Are you not getting the point?

If you'd have sent me a message back like that, I'd have told you where to go - there's no need to be an !!!! to them.

They probably have hundreds of emails a day to deal with - why should yours take priority?

Like for like. Do a Google search to see how they treat their customers. This is a deliberately obstructive and awkward company which receives lots of complaints to the body I mentioned in my first post

It may well be legal/above board, but you have to question the spirit behind it.

I think it's karma at work when the constantly-taking-types get caught out by their own self-gratification. True proof that you don't get owt for nowt.

Nout wrong with a good freebie. Posted a few myself this morning. A company giving away two free downloadable games for the Playstation. Whats up with that? They want to give I am happy to take :D

Of course you only want to take - that is my point.

Businesses run offers to increase sales/awareness etc., not just for the benefit of greedy-grabbers. As more grabbers strip the offers from the genuinely interested, businesses will be less likely to offer them again as they will not see any beneficial return on them.

But as long as you're alright jack, to hell with anyone else.

They got exactly what they wanted. They wanted me to like their facebook page, I get a code for two free games. Guess its the advertising they want. Guess there is an element of that too for the other offers. When I took up the Be2 offer it would have displayed in several places where 100's of other people could see it and with a link. From that Be2 may have got 3 paid subs. Who knows.

You liked their page, was that with your genuine ID or just a fake profile set up so you don't spread their name to your friends and can ignore their subsequent updates?

I liked the page, in fact it was an app. I only have one Facebook account. The only Apps I avoid are the ones that want to post as me . I find that 100% unacceptable

In reality, how much do you think it cost them to run that particular offer? Digital content afterall...

In the case of my mate, he offered a £20 product for free, cost to him was about £5 per unit though. He was willing to spend £5k of his own money on that offer with a view to increasing sales and encourging repeat business.

Once the greedy-grabbers got hold of it, there was never a chance he was going to see any recoup on that investment. He's still sat on the stock after a few weeks, and it has affected his cash-flow. And that's the thing with these type of people, they just saw it as a business giving away a freebie, but it was actually a guy who had worked his nads off to get a business off the ground and wanted to take it the next step to grow it further.

But the dirty vultures picked him off before he had the chance to make a go of it.

But hey, they were happy to take.

No idea how much it costs them to run the offer. I would guess they have a license to distribute the games so that would be a factor in the cost.

As for your mate I dont understand. You only give away free stock if

    A: You can afford too
B: You are confident that giving stock away will bring repeat business

If its a great product with and it has a secondary market or will encourage people to come back for similar items then alls good. But if your going to give away a Deep fat fryer dont be surprised if people turn up take a Deep fat fryer then use it for five years.

Sorry but really didnt get the point of the post. I trade, I dont give away my stock, it will sell its self.

C: That people who actually take you up on the offer are genuine customers, and won't just take it for the sake of taking it.

He could afford to run the offer on the planned strategy that everyone who claimed the voucher would redeem it against another purchase in order to claim their free item, but because the grabbers just took it without actually seeing that there was a degree of spend (allbeit his cheapest item was £3 inc postage) it prevented others who may have considered shopping elsewhere from spending their money with him.

It's clear though that people do not see beyond their own rapacious nose. As I said, and as you are perfectly demonstrating, far too many people these days are just interested in take take take.
But you carry on devouring up as many freebies as you can get your grubby hands on, it doesn't matter who else you may deprive as long as you get yours.
