Question about washing machines!
Comments
-
Its a huge myth that washing machines were getting filled with hot water.
What they were actually getting fed with when taking in 'hot water' through the hot tap was actually the 'dead leg' of cold water that was resting in the pipes. In some cases this could be many litres. This was then replace with hot water from the tank whichy was cooling down very quickly. So the hot water was never actually getting into the washing machine.
But because the washing machine was expecting hot water, it realised it was cold and then heated the water up itself. Hence the water was being heted twice. Very energy inefficient. So now all WMs are cold fill and the water is heated (if needed) just the once.
What a load of rubbish!
We have a hot and cold fill machine and it is simply a matter of running the hot tap in the kitchen before starting the machine. The machine is only one hose length away from piping hot water, so not even one litre of "cold water that was resting in the pipes". Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

No it is not rubbish.
Read the consultation documents that were issued prior to the regualtion being introduced. This was the main reason cited alonfg with the introduction of low heat/cool wash detergents.
Your washing machine may be close to the source of hot water, but many people have their WM a distance from the source of hot water. So before you criticise, know your facts.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
I usually use a 60C wash to reduce bacteria and avoid the smelly washing that sticking to a 40C wash caused.
As I have a combi boiler I run the kitchen sink hot tap for 30 seconds before starting the washing machine to fire up the boiler and run off the cold water in the pipe.
I prefer having the option of a hot fill, the machine certainly does fill with hot water, it reduces the electricity consumption and length of the wash cycle.0 -

you two crack me up, so you both run copious amounts of water down the drain so your washing machine doesn't have to heat up 4 ltrs of water,
i'm not sure how espress heats their water but lets say that they both heat their water the same & the distances are the same, run the combi for 30 secs that would be at least 5 ltrs down the drain, not along run from the boiler to the sink say another 2 ltrs down the drain, so to save heating your water in the machine you waste 7 ltrs of water, 30 secs worth of gas for the combi & oh yes your combi won't heat the hotwater to 60c so your machine still has to heat the water.
hardly energy saving eh !!!!I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Meanwhile I'm still stuck for a hot fill WM cos there arent any.

Wrong!
Well as you have not been put off by a couple of idiot posters above, a quick Google shows that despite "the regualtion being introduced" :rotfl:
they are still available e.g.
LG F1443KD
Whirlpool
Baumatic:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

We don't run copious amounts of water down the drain - the washing machine is usually started just after doing the washing up, so the water is already running hot.

I would not have a combi boiler in my property - not suitable for our requirements.

You may think that you are right but I have proved that it is cheaper for us to use hot fill, so plenty of BS from you as usual! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

oh dear phill i think someone needs another cup of coffee, cause we have both been told off,
read what i wrote, i said i didn't know how you heat your water i was giving an example, good for you if that's how you work your washing machine but back in the real world (& not in that big fuffy cloud you live in), most people don't have time to run their smalls washing around the dirty dishes, here's an idiot sorry typo i meant idea why don't you do the washing up then use the water in the sink to wash your clothes as it's already hot, simples !!
BTW my sig is copyrighted did i give you permission to repost it ??I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
