I think if you re-read my comments, you will see that I am NOT saying buy one UNLESS there is an issue!!
My comments were to people considering buying the mattress because I consider it to be successful WHERE THERE IS A PROBLEM.

You will see that yes I am new but I have also joined in with other forum topics - my apologies for not discovering this website before - maybe my comments would have been taken seriously

If you read the comments you will see that people are not saying that it won't work, just that the propoganda uses scare tactics to frighten parents into spending a lot of money on buying one just in case they may need it.

lembert you have to admit its an almighty coincidence that 3(? or is it more) new users have posted their first posts on this thread and at times when the thread had fallen way down the board and possibly off the first page. Its a strange thing for first timers (and so many) to post on and to actively search for as they must have to find it after it had dropped.

Admit you work for them! or have some interest.

This is silly now - I found the thread by searching on google under "Sleepcurve" to see if they made a mattress suitable for a cotbed after he grew out of the moses basket - that's why I chose to comment when I did.

I worked as a mortgage adviser until going on maternity leave - a million miles away from anything to do with mattress companies

    Hi,
    Another Sleepcurve supporter here.
My son was born early and due to this developed flattening of the head very early. I did everything in my power to prevent it getting worse - carried him in a sling, tummy time, special pillows, even several visits to a cranial osteopath and none of them worked. My health visitor referred him to a specialist on the NHS and we also took him to a private (starband) specialist from the age of 5 months.
He was diagnosed with severe plagiocephaly by both the NHS and the private specialist and we were given a sleepcurve crib mattress by Alder Hey hospital to trial when he was 6 months old. Since using it his head is almost perfect visibly and on returning back to the private specialist a few weeks ago they have measured his head and he is now in the 'mild plagiocephaly' range. He has never been treated by starband, these were pre treatment consultations and therefore free. They have said he no longer requires treatment and has been signed off.
I have no doubt at all that the fast improvement is due to the sleepcurve. Would it have improved without it? Possibly, but I will not hesitate to use it for my next baby just in case.
The NHS trial should give an unbiased assessment of the sleepcurve mattress.

I don't think anyone is doubting that the sleepcurve mattress will work. What is in question is the scare tactics used to terrify parents into paying way over the top prices for what is just a foam mattress with a V cut in it.

It is difficult to judge how many children do benefit because most of them go back to normal anyway......my son's head did.
  • I have recently had scans on my baby as they thought he has a condition called craniosyntosis. luckily he doesnt but he does however have a flat heads. I have returned from alderhey last wwek. The advic ethey gave is that these matreeses are fantasic and will soon be publishing a report encouraging people to get them. we have the cushions for our baby at the moment but that still puts pressure on his head, whereas the matresses are designed so the head is in a curve so no pressure is put on the head. my baby is 1 now and we are still considering buying one as he sleeps on his back all the time. I would reccomend one if anyone is thinking of hetting on. They are around £90. matresses can be expensive anyway and if it prevents the baby developing a flat head, its a small pric eto pay. I only wish i had heard about them sooner. We wil definatly be investing in one for when we have another baby.

My daughter was born with a perfectly round head. She is now 4 months old and over the past month we have realised that she has developed a flat patch at the back of her head.

When I received the mattress from John Lewis (John Lewis branded product) after ordering it online I realised it was firm and looked cheap. Today I put my head on the mattress and it was clear to me that it is extremely firm and at very least contributed to the problem, although in my personal opinion a better mattress would have prevented the issue. It was competitively priced but I now blame myself for buying cheap.

    Note to parents to be:
Avoid cheap mattresses which are too firm.

Will now buy a supporting cushion to try rectify the condition.

    I've been Money Tipped!
My sons head was misshapen from a week old and ended up with a stars helmet, his mattress didnt help as they are quite dense. I had a sleep curve for him and found it ok but its a big curve for a little baby, there are special little pillows hat you can get provided your baby doesnt wriggle, in time ds just slept on his side naturally
