dont believe it. the skull problem is caused by babies sitting in hard car seats for too long - not lying on soft mattresses.

Any evidence to back this up?

Found the sleepcurve website , think it is a real issue since everyone following the sids prevention info re putting baby to sleep on their backs. It's also good for baby to have some tummy time ie lie on their front for a while when they are awake.

They have prices on the website £69.99 for a cot topper or £79.99 for a cotbed topper, so you would need another mattress under it, may be cheaper elsewhere.

Ouch, that is a lot for what is basically a mattress topper with a v shaped cut out.

Seem to remember paying about £80 for a cot-bed mattress for my son. It's got a breathable zip-off layer, which is v. handy for cleaning. He never had a problem with a flat head - I guess a purchase of one of these special mattress covers could be held off, and if it seems like the baby is developing a problem (and by the sounds of things it's quite a rare condition) then *that's* the time to be forking out another 80 quid.

I spent around £100 for a mattress and cover for my son - he had a weird shaped head at a year old.

But for my daughter, I bought a lovenest pillow which has a hole in it to stop pressure on the back of the skull, suitable for birth-4months. Stopped the problem happening at all, and only cost around £7.

She is nearly 1, and there's nothing wrong with her head.

    fgs!!!
where are all the people with flat heads?? a quick look around my house, 5 of us in here and I don't see a single flat head. Of course, I also can look out of the window and I still don't see anybody with a flat head.
Yes, parents do put thier children down to sleep on thier backs--but this used to be common practice in great grandmas day and I don't remember loads of old people wondering around with flat heads. I fully understand that some children will suffer from a problem which will need correcting, but it sounds as tho a company with an eye on a "guilt trip" profit has decided to cash in on this.
If you really think your child has a problem which needs this mattress, speak to your Health Visitor/Dr before spending loads of money on one.

A few people have said that they bought one of these mattresses, and it stopped their child getting a flat head.........how do you know if your child would have had a flat head without it????

For people that are concerned this Plagiocephaly is very informative, the link take's you to a page giving advice on prevention. It is not something that I know a lot about I'm lucky my dd's head is fine but my friends ds is all flat at the back he's 3 1/2 now. He isn't too bad but it does look a bit odd sometimes, he is gorgeous though.
