NOOOOOO! Don't do it!
Tiscali should be avoided at all costs!!
You will regret the day you ever signed up to them.
Choose a reliable provider.
If unlimited call package worth it?? 18866 charge only 2p/call you could use 18866 in combination with Tele2 who are offering free evening and weekend calls, I'm sure it would work out cheaper.
That just leaves you to find a proper broadband supplier. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
And need to retain a BT line for Sky
You do NOT need a BT line for Sky, never have done and still don't need to. You just need a 'Working landline' - this can be BT, Bulldog, Telewest, NTL etc.
We've had Sky Digital from launch date 1st Oct 1998 and had a Telewest phone line. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Don't use Tascali.
Their support is poor when you finally get through to it and expensive too. I was having technical problems with them and the support was so overused that after 5 minutes on hold I was regularly kicked off. And it was 10p per minute. A complete waste of money.

Hi.
I am currently with Zen Internet. Their support is absolutely brilliant and the connection itself is great. The only problem is that all this comes at a price - £25 a month for a 512kb connection. The thing that is stopping me moving is that Zen offer content filtering at the ISP end which is great at blocking out inappropriate content. I know you can by filtering software packages for your computer, but in my experience these don't work well.
I'd ideally like to go with Plus Net but I don't think they offer content filtering at their end. Does anyone have any experience with this. When I phone Plus Net they said that you could configure a few options on the control panel to stop certain sites but he was a bit vague.
Many thanksMoneysaving since 2004!0 -
Can anyone really tell if cable is better than bt for access .
Telewest tells me that as I have a dedicated line with only me on it that its miles better than bt ,The 512 standard service is quick and very reliable and if you have a problem telewest is quick to sort it out and refund charges without a quibble.
All these other services like bulldog cannot guarantee much above one meg in my area if we are lucky, using bt lines .Were all Dooooooooomed !0 -
If you have access to Telewest broadband, then don't even think about not having Telewest.
Now that Telewest has realised that 600 metres of my road hadn't been forgotten about for the last 18+ months, I am switching to Telewest next week for broadband. Telephone is staying with BT - wouldn't touch Telewest for a phone service, not because I had any problems in the past, it's just no longer the value for money it used to be (under Birmingham Cable). Plus with BT it is easier to use 18866, 1899, 18185 etc plus TalkTalk, Tele2, OneTel etc.
Yes cable really is better than ADSL whether from BT or any of the thousand other ADSL suppliers.
Telewest's £9.99 (512k) offering is dependant on taking their phone service - £14.99 if not, as is also not included in the speed increases that will happen shortly.
Telewest charge 6p connection on each call (except free ones), yes you could use Call 1899 at 3p/call but it's the hassle of using the 0808 access number, though you could buy a dialler box.
I'm going for the 2 for £20. Even though I have Sky Digital and have no plans of getting rid of it, instead of paying £25/month for 1mb broadband (will be upgraded to 4mb) you get starter package digital TV and 1mb broadband (4mb) for £19.99 per month. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
I always understood that the speed of your cable connection depended on how many other people in your area are using the same cable feed at the same time, and that the downside of cable is that at peak times you receive a poorer service. Not sure how Telewest can claim that it would only be you using the one dedicated line?
Maybe I've misunderstood...Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0
