Um - could anyone explain in English what IPStream and Datastream are?!

They are two different methods of connection for broadband

With datastream the ISP installs its own equipment in the BT exchange, this means that you are tied to that ISP and if you wish to migrate you have to wait for them to disconnect you at their convenience before you can go to another ISP, this can take up to 3 or 4 weeks.

IP Stream uses BT equipment so you can migrate from one ISP to another in a couple of hours, BT just switch the connection

Virgin at the time giving a free modem and connection with no 12 month contract PlusNet's offer didn't seem that great to me. ymmv

If you read the terms of Virgins contract they offer free modem and connection, but even though you are on a monthly contract, if you cancel in the first twelve months they charge a cancellation fee which is approx the same as Plusnets

I personally think £14.99 per month for a 2Mb connection and no download limits except for P2P is a far better deal than Virgins £24.99 per month for the same speed, with a capped download limit.

Thats £120 per annum cheaper for a far better service

Plusnet and Force9 appear to be identical? I assume comments re Plusnet also apply to Force9 deals?

As far as I am aware Force9 was the original ISP name and it was just a name change to Plusnet a couple of years ago.

They still have a site for Force9 for customers that signed up to them when they operated under that name

The sites are identical so would assume same conditions apply

  • I am considering signing up with Tiscali for it's new offer through WH Smith, Imb broadband and UK anytime calls for £19.49 per month. Has anyone any info on this I should know about or has anyone signed up yet. It seems like a good deal to me as I can't get NTL in my area and need to retain a BT line for Sky. Any comments welcome.
