all people or some? I have been working since 1987 and out of work now for 18mths. If I could get a job where Id be £10 better a week than me 67.50, I'd do it!
Same here. Me and other half both work. We are £23 a week better off than if we didn't work but the bus fayres to and from work are £13 a week.0 -
IF she has been offered a sjob she should take it and the only reason is the benefits would stop that she gets and too right it should!
I agree with that to be honest. Her and her partner have always sat back and let the government foot the bill. I'm not saying all unemployed people do that though.0 -

but you did say unemployed people get used to it. I HATE it!Charityworker wrote: »I agree with that to be honest. Her and her partner have always sat back and let the government foot the bill. I'm not saying all unemployed people do that though.0 -
I think if a job equals what you'd get on benefits you should take it, promotions etc and as they say its easier to get a job when working, the only time I would not take a job was if it cost me money, I applied for a job in a supermarket, I never really thought it out properly and in my desperation I applied, glad I didn't get it now, it was 20 hrs a week, by the time I factored in the cost of buses/taxis at around £10 a day I'd come home with less than I get on the dole.0

Equals? Surely that's got to be more when you take out travel. To get to my last job and anywhere in London it costs £160 a monthI think if a job equals what you'd get on benefits you should take it, promotions etc and as they say its easier to get a job when working, the only time I would not take a job was if it cost me money, I applied for a job in a supermarket, I never really thought it out properly and in my desperation I applied, glad I didn't get it now, it was 20 hrs a week, by the time I factored in the cost of buses/taxis at around £10 a day I'd come home with less than I get on the dole.0 -

Yeah I'm curious what way that would work? How would you explain that to the Jobcentre "Oh I got a job but I can't actually afford to take it" What do you do in that situation? Do you just not apply? Or would they make u apply even if u ended up working for very little?0 -
No you have to be better off in work. Don't they do a better off in work calculation. There is no way I could do a 16 hr a week job at minimum wage if that made my take home £421 ish a month and travel £160 leaving me £261 which is less £32 less than then JSA. It is only worth it if you can walk to work and no rent to pay or anything like that.Yeah I'm curious what way that would work? That's a mistake I've been making thinking you had to apply for anything suitable, My Mrs works 16 hrs on min wage, by the time she pays her parking, fuel and what ever else she'd get more on JSA0 -
That's why part time jobs on NMW are not worth it really if you are the only earner in a partnership. That's a mistake I've been making thinking you had to apply for anything suitable, My Mrs works 16 hrs on min wage, by the time she pays her parking, fuel and what ever else she'd get more on JSA
I was only giving 16 hrs as an example but I am not looking for 16 hours work as it would cost more to get there if I can't walk it.
I would still apply for NMW jobs that are 35-37.5 hours a week but still not leaving much (take home £882 a mth)0
