I doubt there were many workmen beavering away at 7am on a Saturday morning (I'd be delighted to be proved wrong). In my experience, far too often the motorways are coned off with speed restrictions for weeks on end and not a blessed thing is happening.

Speed per se is not the problem, it's driving inappropriately fast in a given situation that is.

The speed limits are not JUST there to protect the work force though. By coning off areas, you are forcing the traffic to be in much closer proximity to one another and this brings with it a greater risk of collision. There is also the distracting effect of the cones themselves whizzing past one peripheral vision.

The biggest snarl up with regard to roadworks is the inconsiderate nature of many drivers who seem to think their time is more precious than everyone elses and leave it to the last minute to filter in causing the 'wave braking' phenomenon which sees the traffic come to a standstill 100yds behind them.

The other evening on the M42 they had just ONE lane open and the traffic was still fairly heavy being about 9pm on a friday evening. They did however signal the lane closures and put up arrows for people to move accross possibly 2 miles before we got there. The result was EVERYONE was in lane by the time we got to the 40mph zone and the cars simply flowed through it without any holdups.

By the way, just because the workmen don't seem to be there when you drive through doesn't mean no work is done on that stretch. ;)

I'm going to have to go to the other side today (As) to hunt cheap beer as my M&S order for OHs diploma celebration was a disaster. :(

Firstly I didn't notice one crate was only 330ml bottles due to units per bottle description being wrong, ie that of a 500ml bottle. I have no idea if they have altered description since I ordered either because I'm 99% sure I would have noticed it saying 20 x 330mls but have no proof if it's been changed sinceI ordered. :(:(

And worse of all the mixed crate I ordered has not arrived because it was damaged and been sent back before it even reached us and they don't have any in stock to replace it. :(:(:(

The best buy I can find for bottled ales at the moment is from As for either Hobgoblin or same brewerys selection of 4 pack for £5. But if anyone knows any better deals, I would be grateful for the info. OH wants bottles not cans so that's the best have been able to find so far. TIA

I have just been phoned by the tesco I visited last night, on the pretence of asking if i've lost my clubcard!!
They then told me I am banned from all tesco stores and they have circulated my photograph :eek::eek: and contacted the police :eek::eek:
I asked her to explain herself and she said that I purchased 1p chocolates with insider information :eek: and went into the store 3 times (it was 2), that I had a list (I did not) and I was on camera and they had contacted the police :eek::eek:

When I asked her waht she thought was a police matter and what she meant by insider information, she wouldn't answer, so I kept asking till she just hung up :eek::eek:
I got her name and have contacted HO, they phoned the store and no answer, so they are e-mailing the manager and calling me back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morning all i hope you are all well.
3Dogs i am so pleased for you that you now have Mr 3Dogs at home, i really wanted to have FIL back home but lack of space put a no no on that one, he needs a hospital standard air bed, and hoisted to get in and out of bed, and his bed room is only a small room, did try to get it in to front room but not enough room to manouvre the hoist safely so that was also a no no. He is now in a nursing home around the corner from us, not even five minutes walk so we go and get him and push him home in his wheel chair, OH takes him to the pub. He is so much happier there than he was when in hospital, he says that all the staff are lovely and spend time chatting with him, will also take him out side if he wants to have a fag, he also has a bottle of beer a day if he wants it. These little things have made such a difference to his quality of life and im pleased to say he is now no longer saying he wants to die.

i know this is completely OT but i saw this and thought i would share with you all, it just makes me so sad these "Men" that died looked so young, and have given up their lives for their country. God bless them all and may they RIP, my thoughts go out to their families and friends and also the other guys they worked with over in Afghanistan. If i could stand up and salute you all i would .

    RIP xxx

I agree, FK, that the "wave breaking" is very dangerous, it drives me nuts, though again, unlikely to be much of a problem when it's quiet. I agree when it's busy things flow much better when everyone follows the speed limit, but I felt one of the responses to celebrate was a bit OTT in the circumstances and wanted to give a different perspective.
    Hope is not a strategy.

That's awful fudge2. If the stuff is on the shop floor for sale it's not our fault the pricing is not to their liking.

Did you use your CC, I try not to for 1p stuff. I paid for my find other day at SS and stuck my pennies in to look up and see a security guard standing at end of tills. Did make my heart go a bit.

OMG ... How did they get your name/number? Had you left your CC there? Do you recognise the name given (i.e. an SA you've had dealings with in the past?).

What photo have they got? When was it taken? And what's the police ref: number?

    I'd be absolutely livid!!

But then again ... are you sure it was someone from the store and not someone else "having a laugh"?:eek:
