  • So my seven seater 4x4 is covered in the UK by Autoaid but when I call to extend cover for a two week break in France, they will only cover 5 passengers -apparently there are no 7 seater hire cars in France??

Took 3 minutes to find an alternative (The Green Insurance Company) that provides a years UK and EU cover for all passengers for just £20 more than Autoaid.

Autoaid - Its cheap - but you cant go on holiday

Bought cover a couple of months ago. Broke down on 26/6 in my 32 year old MG Midget. They took a while to find my location on calling them but once they had me on their maps I was sent a text within a couple of minutes to say who was coming. The recovery operator arrived about 20 minutes later and as the radiator was blocked recovered me home. I did have to ring the recovery operator after around 10 days as still hadn't received receipt, they then sent it the next day. Sent claim form off to autoaid and cheque arrived this morning only 5 working days later! Well chuffed.

    ignore just joined up.
  • I was a member of the RAC for 5 years and never called them out once. However I recently decided to switch to AutoAid as it is so much cheaper, £38 at time of joining - a similar level of cover using RAC is about £90 more.
I had been a member with them for about 2 weeks when my car would not start (at home). I rang them and they arranged for someone to come and check the car. The breakdown/recovery truck
arrived in about 30 mins. The car could not be fixed at my house so it was taken to a local garage of my choice this cost £46.80 - more than the cost of membership. I paid and when I recieved an invoice from the breakdown company, filled out a claim form and had a check sent back to me within 5 working days. This is my first experience with AutoAid and it could not have been better.
So I would definitely recommend them to anyone.:T

Was with autoaid years ago now i'm thinking of joining them again,Becaus as far as i can tell there the only breakdown recovery company that will take you home or to your destination straight from a breakdown. All the others have slipped into there smallprint will take to a local garage and if it cannot be fixed in the day then they will take you to destination or home.
  • Hi everyone, I am thinking of going with autoaid but I just want to check how picky they are over who is driving.

My boyfriend often drives my car (with me as passenger), especially on long drives, but since we're not married he obviously wouldn't be covered by my policy. I'm guessing they won't know or care who was literally in the driving seat at the time the breakdown occurred, but wanted to check!
  • I had an istance last year when I was in hospital, my daughter was driving and call centre refused to cover the breakdown even though my wife was in the car. if we had said that my wife was driving they admitted they would have covered the breakdown. We were told that now we had stated the driver it was tough luck.

To answer your question...they seem to be very picky.

Apart from this we have been delighted wirth thier service.

  • Thanks for the feedback. It turns out he's covered to drive other cars under his own breakdown service, so I think I will still go with AutoAid.

Not so impressed with AutoAid - was with them for a few years. With my call-out (flat battery) the company they sent gave me paperwork which AutoAid wouldn't accept to reimburse payment, spent weeks trying to get it sorted and numerous phone calls back and forth with no joy. In the end I gave up and ended up £80 out of pocket.

You don't say why they refused to acept the paperwork, but they have a complaints procedure which you can still go down. See your policy for details.

If you are still unhappy after using the complaints procedure you can then use the FOS who will decide if your complaint is correct and if so force them to pay you.
