Roadside Recovery: AutoAid Feedback

Just sharing my experiences today as I am so impressed!!
I rang AutoAid for the first time since getting the policy over a year ago and so this is based on one response. However, it is a response on one of the busiest days for breakdowns in the year - Monday morning the weekend after heavy snowfall! I rang at 8.15am following a burst tyre and had all my details taken after about a 2 minute wait on the line. Autoaid sent me a text message to say when my rescue would arrive. About 10 minutes before the ETA I had a phone call to say the local breakdown company was "minutes away" and sure enough, there he was, bang on time! All in all, I waited an hour and a quarter in minus 6 temperatures. Another person down the road experienced a burst tyre too (massive pothole on the road affected many of us!) and they had tried the AA, with no response!! I am so glad I am with Autoaid!!0 -
Had a little contretemps with a kerb during heavy snowfall on the morning of the 18th December, 30 miles from home, resulting in the front wheels pointing at crazy angles :embarasse.
Called Autoaid at 0900. Was expecting a massive wait as no doubt there were loads of recoveries needed in the snow. Waited in the queue for about 3 minutes, all the time having my place counted down: "you are fifth in the queue".
Spoke to a nice gentleman. Five minutes later received an SMS to say to expect the breakdown truck at 1025.
Truck arrived at 1000. Car was on the forecourt of my local garage at 1040 and I was home by 1100.
Cost to me was £104 on my credit card. Now just got to fill in the claim form to get it back.
Five stars feedback from me so far :T0 -
I have been with Autoaid now for approx 4 years since I first saw it recommended on this site, can only say my experience is excellent, have used them on 4 different occasions and each time the response was very good (which considering on one occasion on a Boxing Day evening in a lay by the car locked with the keys in and engine running whilst having a call of nature and I was 160 miles from home in a shirt and it was -2C), luckily the guy was there in 20 minutes with his special coathanger tool and within 15 minutes I was on my way. Each time I have claimed the invoice has been paid to me within a week which is brilliant. would totally recommend this service to anyone bearing in mind it includes my wife also and any car we are driving.0

That is good service.
Compare your good experience with that of the RAC who refused to help in an identical situation using this clause:RAC Membership does not cover:
Vehicle Recovery following a road traffic accident, fire, theft, act of vandalism or any other incident covered by a policy of motor insurance.
(They had sent a local agent to deal with the call out. On taking radio advice the agent left the scene, advising the insurer be informed. This was duly done by phone and the insurance company helpfully organised a local breakdown company to come and take the car away. When it turned up (very quickly), who should it be but the same guy who had attended half an hour earlier!)0 -
I joined AutoAid last year for the first time. Whilst on holiday in Scotland (Trossachs area) last November my car started playing up and because of poor mobile phone reception in the area I managed to limp to our hotel arriving late at night in pouring rain. The next morning I phoned the nearest main dealer and they put me in touch with a recovery firm. Due to the very bad weather conditions they were very busy but still managed to get to me within the hour. They took my car to the dealer and I phoned to book it in. The next day when it was ready I phoned for a taxi which took me to the dealer and I collected my car. I paid the recovery firm by credit card and got a cash receipt from the taxi driver. No problems there. I phoned AutoAid and requested a claim form, which they obviously sent to my home address. When I got home late on a Friday evening I started reading the claim form and one of the conditions was that it must be submitted to them within 14 days of the incident. I must admit I panicked a bit, but as I lived near their office in Brentwood I decided to hand deliver it on the Saturday morning. The office was closed but a security guard took it in. First thing Monday morning I phoned the office to let them know what I had done. The lady I spoke to said the post took a while to get to the claims office and that she would phone me when it turned up. Having not heard from her I phoned again on the Wednesday morning and she got a bit cross with me for asking her to try and find my claim form. I explained that my reason for hand delivering the form was the 14 day clause and I was now concerned it was lying in reception somewhere. She then said she apreciated the 14 day clause was on the form but they do not strictly enforce it, there is a bit of leeway. But I am afraid I do not trust insurance companies as most seem to use any excuse not to pay up. But, I have to say a cheque for the full amount I had paid out was sent within the week.
Hence I have just renewed with them. So!!! breaking down in Scotland was not a problem. I was able to organise everything myself to suit the situation I was in.0 -

I am able to confirm how excellent the value and service of Autoaid are. My family have used them for many years and on a number of occassions we have had to use them. They are prompt at paying and the level of service is comparable to the major recovery agencies at a fraction of the cost. You can even choose the garage that you wish to attend if you wish. Just have a debit/credit card to hand.:T0

Just wanted to say that we have had FAB service from Autoaid. They came out to our vehicle within 20 minutes and processed the cheque for our reimbursement within a few days. Really impressed and so glad that we found them on MSE site and decided to use them. Well done Autoaid!0

Autoaid were great when they sent out a local firm to me a week yesterday - however I'm struggling to get a receipt from the company and only have until next Thursday to get my claim into Autoaid - any suggestions?
Thanks0 -
Autoaid are not as strict as they make out. We also had problems getting a receipt posted to us and eventually the recovery firm faxed it to Autoaid.0
