But if you have no means of payment, the issue isn't between you and Autoaid, it's between you and the recovery firm. And they aren't going to take kindly to not getting paid.
The scenario is no different to the average person without breakdown cover calling for assistance via the Police motorway telephones. You'll get recovered off the motorway, but if you tell them you can't pay they aren't going to take you anywhere further IMHO.
AutoAid sent a breakdown truck to my husband, who had broken down with no wallet or credit cards on him, in 2008 and they said no problem and that they would settle up the bill directly with the recovery firm - as luck should have it he didn't need to be recovered home and the driver repaired the car.AutoAid paid and we never heard anything more about the incident.
So, I guess under certain circumstances they aim to be as obliging as possible. Guess that's why we have been members with AutoAid for 6 year now.

Just about to renew my cover with AutoAid but I now wish to have my girlfriend included. It seems I can't do this so will have to take out 2 separate policies. Is this still worth it or would it be better to check out other providers/cashback etc? Anyone done this comparison?

I have just found GEM motoring assist which provides a similar service for £63.45, which covers two people living at the same address (but not necessarily married). This is a saving of £10.55 on the same cover from AutoAid (2x£37=£74).
There is a bit of a dearth of reviews on the company but the few I've found have been good.0 -
It said in today's paper that Auto Aid came top of a Which survey on Breakdown Cover (The AA came second)0

I'm in need of breakdown cover so I'll probably be joining AutoAid tomorrow. I have a couple of questions though.
1) What happens if I breakdown and have no cash or cards on me?
I've heard that AutoAid will arrange recovery with an invoice that I can pay at a later date, can someone confirm that?
2) The policy states that I will be covered in any car. Do I have to be the driver of that car, or can I also use AutoAid as a passenger in a friend or family members car?
3) If I breakdown and I choose to use a local recovery firm instead of calling the AutoAid rescue line, do I still need to notify AutoAid as soon as I break down, or can I literally just send them an invoice a couple of days later from my chosen recovery firm/garage?
4) Do they cover any parts needed on the roadside, or is it strictly recovery and labour costs only?
Thanks in advance.0 -
Would Autoaid come out to change a tyre/wheel? (I know, I really should learn to do this myself!):o
Also, are they currently on any cashback sites?

Yes they will change a wheel,(not the tyre),
Don't know about any cashback sites they may be on.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

Have you read THE POLICY DOC? it's all in there.
i.e from page 1 under "Breakdown procedure"." If the vehicle that you or your legal spouse or civil partner are driving breaks down, you may go ahead and arrange help without our approval."
From page 3 under "Benefits";-
"If the vehicle cannot be driven as a result of a breakdown, that happens while you or your legal spouse or civil partner are driving, we will refund the costs shown below as long as they are as a direct result of the breakdown and are paid immediately after the breakdown."

An e-mail reply I received from Autoaid last year when I made a query, (it is also in their policy document, link above);-
"AutoAid covers you and your spouse driving any car, car derived van, motorcycle (over 150cc), motorised caravan (under 2500cc and 2500kg) for £37.00 per annum, this provides you with total cover, which includes, roadside assistance, a vehicle recovery service to one place of your choice, home assistance, emergency travel or overnight hotel accommodation and an attached caravan or small trailer."
I would assume they don't class a min bus as a "car derived van".
