  • we have used them before and found them good but now that I have a young child we switched to the rac as I believed they would get there quicker but after reading some of these posts we may go back and save money
  • Well I received this reply from them by email:
Thank you for your recent e-mail.

Unfortunately, we would not be able to provide breakdown assistance for
your motorbike, as we only cover motorbikes that are 150cc and over.

    We hope this clarifies matters.

I have replied to them asking for further clarification since I am certain this does not appear in any of their policy documents (both what I have on paper and their PDF versions on line).

out of interest do you just call autoaid up when in need of assistance and have whatever local recovery they send out?

or, do you have you own preferred local specialist you call up as i've heard some people do this, and presumably don't even bother involving autoaid, other than sending them the bill!!! LOL

my experience is they tend to send a local 'recovery' service who seem most interested in just towing you than investigating and trying to remedy the cause of the problem?? maybe just my experience but i find the AA or whoever spend much longer trying to 'fix you' and towing being the last resort really..

    The choice is yours.

    From their policy document.

    Page 1;-

    Breakdown procedure

Our trained staff will deal with your request quickly, avoiding any further stress or worry.
If you have hearing difficulties, call the minicom number 0800 174647.

Please have the following information available when you phone.

    Your document number.

The phone number (including the area code) you are calling from.

The location of the broken-down vehicle, including road numbers or names and landmarks.

The registration number, make, model and colour.

Details of how you will pay the recovery firm.

Please stay with the vehicle until a rescue vehicle arrives.

But I think you make a valid point, that the AA and RAC have dedicated fleets set up for the purpose whereas if you use a local garage they might be specialists in recovery rather than roadside breakdown.

The flip side to that is that sometimes waiting for a local firm can be quicker than waiting for a dedicated vehicle to arrive.

A certain amount is always going to be down to the quality of the garage and the individual you get.

Personally I think it's an absolutely cracking deal and there is the option of you using a firm of your choice.

Just to add my "thumbs-up". Been with AutoAid for 2 years, had to use them for the first time a couple of weeks back. Car could not be repaired at the roadside, the guy asked me where I wanted to be towed to. I asked him to take me to my local garage ( a 5 minute walk from my house ), no problem. This was obviously far more convenient than being taken to the nearest garage to where I'd broken down, which is about 20 miles from home.

Sent in the receipt for the recovery charge, cheque arrived within a week, no questions or quibbles. That one recovery has already more than paid for my 2 years' membership costs.
  • Exhaust unexpectedly snapped on car today so was unable to drive forwards without exhaust digging in to road. Called on AutoAid to save the day and was collected within 45 mins and dropped off at local exhaust centre. Recovery cost was £45 for 5 mile journey which I paid for by credit card and will claim back when receipt arrives. Overall, a top class service at bargain bucket prices.

    Hi

I was with Autoaid for many years (with the exception of inclusive breakdown with insurers) and never once had a problem when making a claim. Which was usually annually in the earlier years due to having an older car.

Would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.

out of interest what do people do when using a 'home start' call-out. i think it's limited to £65 so when recovery come out do you tell them to work within this constraint? maybe in people experience it's always less anyway or maybe autoaid pay even if it's abit more?

i look forward to hearing what people have found
  • :j Excellent service and value for money - would recommend them 100%
