Hello fellow MSE's,
Thank you to everyone who posted in this thread, your advice has been very helpful. I have just got off the phone with a very polite and helpful Swiss customer service advisor. I explained that I had subscribed in error to the service and wished to cancel and recoup the money paid. He explained that I had signed up with the charges included in the terms and conditions at time of purchasing some airline tickets.
He told me that as I had signed up in ignorance (after all, it is my fault - buyer beware they say!), the company policy was to refund my last three payments within 10 working days. So if anyone is sitting on this...ACT NOW. I went on to ask how many payments I had made in total and asked if these could ALL be refunded. After discussing it with his manager, he explained that I would have to complete a claim form that would be emailed to me and the rest of my payments would be refunded.
I confirmed they had the right email address for me and within minutes I received a confirmation of cancellation, plus the said claims form that I will fill out after this post. The claims form reads as follows:
Please complete this form so that we can assess your claim for a full refund of membership fees. On receipt of your completed Refund Claim Form, we’ll review your Complete Savings member record, and we’ll let you know the outcome within 3 working days. Any additional refunds will be credited back to your credit or debit card account within 10 working days and a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you list below.
I would like to point out that the gentleman who dealt with my request was polite, considerate and the company seemed amenable to my having signed up in error. So maybe the polite approach is best. Then if that doesn't get you anywhere you can start being more insistent. I've read some of the emails written in this thread and other threads, calling them thieves and scammers. I don't think that's fair. I should have been more careful and I'm grateful they are considering my request for a FULL refund. At the end of the day, I should have read the small print of their obviously effective advertising, and I should have acted sooner when I noticed the money was going out of my account.
So in summary:
1) CALL ASAP if you are not interested in what they have to offer and explain you signed up in error and haven't claimed on their service.
2) Be polite and see if you get the same response as I did.
3) If only offered a refund of the last 3 payments, ask how many payments you've made in total and request they be refunded too.
4) Confirm they have your email details and look out for the cancellation email.
5) Fill in the claims form for refund of more than the last 3 payments. Wait 3 working days for a response to see if they will refund the rest of your payments.
6) Check your bank statement 10 working days after cancellation for refund of the last 3 payments.
7) If your claim form has been approved, check your bank statement 10 working days after the confirmation of approval email for refund of the rest of your payments.
Hope this helps0 -
I am really annoyed - I have been caught out with the same scam. I purchased a train ticket via thetrainline.com and after entering my bank details I was asked if I would like to save £15 on my next booking by joining completesavings.co.uk. I ticked yes, filled in my name address and email address and downloaded the voucher. No where did I see any mention of a monthly payment and I did not enter my bank account details separately. Today I have had a payment of £15 taken from my account. I feel like I have been conned and I feel so frustrated that I did not see this coming. How can it be legal to use bank details entered for an entirely different purpose - surely this contravenes data protection? Anyway, I have emailed them asking to be removed from their subscription and asking for a refund and a copy of their complaints procedure.0

How on earth are people just finding out after many months that they have been paying a company - do you not look at your bank accounts ??Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0

Yes just seen £15 taken from my account from Completesavings - never heard of them!! Must have accidently signed up for something I knew nothing about; I'm normally very careful so not a clue what I have done.
I have emailed my complaint to them; I think they may contravene FCA rules for a 'money business' in that they use bank cards to collect money etc. It certainly is not 'treating customers fairly' when hiding or not making clear the fact there is a subscription payable via something you have filled in, or/associated with a purchase for an item you wanted! Bonkers - what is wrong with these people! Life is tough enough without someone misleading you in such a way; puts you off buying things over the net0 -
I am so angry with this company. To anyone who buys online - please check your bank account.
I did not know I had joined this con, all I did was order some cinema tickets, you would not notice you were joining this scam.
I have been conned out of 3 month at 15.00 per month. How could I save 15.00 a month on purchases anyway? its ridiculous.
I have cancelled the bank card payments and have put this down to experience.

Read the posts above and claim your money back, especially post #32. Don't let them get away with it."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
many thanks I will take your advice

I would like to post and update on this issue. I have been offered a refund for the 3 months membership and I am very pleased with this result.
I do think that companies who trade like this are misleading the public and this will cause a lot of bad publicity and alienation in general.

Well done for doing that. It was worth a little bit of effort."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

If like me you have signed up to this by mistake - getting around to cancel it and having the hassle of phoning these guys may well be something that you have been meaning to do for a while! I have just cancelled it this morning on line without having to ring them - easy! Appreciate that I have lost lots of £10's but at least its now cancelled and I have received confirmation from them. If you want to claim the historical payments phone them if you just want to cancel search for your Email for 'complete savings' and they now have a link to cancel the membership - which is completesavings.co.uk/features/cancel/default.rails
Good luck0
