I'm baffled by this frenzy, PS2 is old technology, we've just upgraded to the XBox 360 and flogged all our PS2 stuff on Ebay so we weren't left with a pile of worthless technology when the PS3 arrives.
The XBox 360 is in a different league to the PS2 - you'll get much much more use from an XBox 360 and one decent game and XBox live than from a PS2 and a handful of it's games.

Okay it's a decent price but £49 is all it's worth now and I'm damn sure I wouldn't be in Asda at 6am to get one.

Have to agree, I have a feeling people are looking at what Sony USED to charge for this, seeing the £49 and getting in a bit of a 'bargain frenzy' over it. You can now get an Xbox 360 for £150 and the chances are with the PS3 launch imminent this could even come down to £100 or thereabouts (total speculation, of course).

If you've got an old clanky 'big' PS2, this could be a good buy especially if you've got zillions of PS2 games like we have.

I see there are a number of new PS2 consoles suddenly appearing on eBay this morning....funny that. I wonder how many there will be by the end of the day!!

the playstation is worth £49 pound just so you can play the final fantasy series...Oh and also bully which you cant do on the 360 or normal xbox.

The PS2 may be 'old' technology but it's still got by far and away the best catalogue of games on any system currently available. For £100 you could get a PS2 and enough amazing second hand games to keep you gaming for a year.

Plus games like Okami and God of War 2 show that the machine shouldn't be written of because of it's age.
