Giving up pets because of pregnancy

I know a lot of women who got pets when they are pregnant to keep them company if they are at home all day. I am glad to say they have all still got them.
Believe me - mine are all that's standing between me and going totally stir crazy with boredom when I'm stuck at home most of the time at the moment - those days when I get to join dogs and hubby on walkies are sheer bliss - despite the bump the size of a space hopper and crutches... hell, lots of days the dogs and cat are the most intelligent conversation I get from 9-5!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

Most will say things like no full time workers, no children under 5 but also state that they are not hard and fast rules and will consider individual circumstances.
Your experience of rescues in your area seems to be a positive one and that's fantastic - however, unfortunately where I live they are blanket bans with no negotiation - this is based on my own experiences and those of several of my friends who've also tried to rehome dogs.
I could quite easily find a pup on Gum*tree (or similar), go along and pay several hundred £s for one - but I don't particularly want a pup and I certainly don't want to support irresponsible breeding: I want to rehome a dog that needs a home as there are so many out there.
I totally accept that the home I can provide would not be suitable for every dog - however, it is not unsuitable for every single one and, as I said earlier, all I (and many others) want is to be considered and not just get an outright "no".
If that happens where you are, then great, but sadly it's not the case everywhere.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
