most people go to the bank on the way home or on the way in to work, or buy a weekly/monthly pass
To be fair we don't know the OP's friends money situation, most people have no money near a pay day, so have to physically go in the bank at dinner to get money outIt's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
If it was costing you £7 a day for the bus I would have though someone would havev at least a weekly pass so they knew they could go to work.To be fair we don't know the OP's friends money situation, most people have no money near a pay day, so have to physically go in the bank at dinner to get money out
When I first read this I though 'oh it's only £1, no big deal she was going to put it back the next day'. Example, if you oer spent at lunch time by £1 and was short to get home.
Now it's £8 to get home and get back to work the next day which just seems really odd to me and if the op's friend says they took the money to get to work the next day it looks even more odd.0 -

Like I said we shouldn't jump to conclusion's the friend may have had a weekly/monthly pass but that doesn't mean that it runs Monday to Friday.
Like the OP said £7.00 was used on bus fare's and you cannot buy a return if your not returning on the same day.
£3.50 to get home £3.50 to get to work the next dayIt's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
yes so go to the bank on the way to work or the way home and use the cash point. Everyone has a ATM card.Like I said we shouldn't jump to conclusion's the friend may have had a weekly/monthly pass but that doesn't mean that it runs Monday to Friday.

Well you can't use a cash point if you only have £8 in your account and I don't know any banks that are open before or after I finish work. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
My bus fare to work is easily £8 each way.
All of this is conjecture however and not helping the op friend.0 -
If for example they only had £8 that would cover the money the took.........then what?
Like I said we don't know the full story and I'm not going to start getting into what they should/could/would have done.
What's happened has happened and it's about going forward now. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
To clarify to all questionning bus fare, yes she does buy a monthly bus pass which she thought ran out a few days later than it did. Got on the bus in the morning, was informed by bus driver it had run out who took pity and let her on anyway, then needed fare to get home plus back in the morning as had no money that day, but did have money the next day to put back in the pot at lunch-time which she did. Yes she could have borrowed from colleagues but didn't want to ask as felt a bit stupid but hindsight is a great thing! Came unstuck when questionned and lied as felt she was being accused of being a theif, which again was stupid, but again hindsight is a great thing! Thanks so much for all your helpful advice. Fingers crossed for the hearing. Think honesty is the best policy here where it has gone amiss before, and in the lack of any rigid legalities, - it seems this one will be purely down to the employers' discretion.0

I hope everything turns out ok for your friend OP.It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0
