To be fair, if someone is going to steal I would assume they would do it without others seing.

e.g who has taken my sandwich from the shared fridge, now that is what I class as stealing

That is a very blue collar answer. If a white collar person takes it, it is management of food facility safety.

In my last job someone has some biscuits in the fridge and then they were all gone but a note was left thanking the person who they belonged to for them! That is theft.

    I thought it was politeness?

Really? No it was sarcasm as what can you do about it? We knew who wrote the note but can't say anything. Surely when you dip into the till or petty cash or even the lottery you could just leave a polite note :)
  • You could always have got your own back by making a sandwich with old shellfish in disguised with mayonnaise and have effectively given them food poisioning from hell. They wouldnt be eating anymore sandwiches from the works fridge.

:rotfl:That reminds me of the person that kept taking someones milk, so one day they put laxative in there and the person was revealed.

So she's just lending money or donating her own finances to the company? No, the money belongs to the company.

What in the name of everything holy are you talking about:eek:
Please learn to read before commenting - although thinking post was about OPs daughter then covering up with a daft lie leads me to think the OP could be talking about you:cool:

I manage our Lottery Syndicate at work - it is a strangely thankless task:rotfl:It is not a direct concern of management - except they must be happy for it be done, of course. More pertinently, my manager now and managers in the past have been happy for it to be done because it helps with staff bonding, so to speak - this aspect appears to missing here, to say the least.

Like most others here, I think it is a matter of trustworthiness. AndI really wonder why three people chose to go to management instead of addressing her directly.

The only other thing I wonder is - has OPs friend ever had to put money in for members who missed a week (especially for one of the three). Or alternatively, has she ever refused to do so?

If the lottery was placed surely no theft. A theif does not steal and the following day return to put back whats been stolen. If someone gave me money to place on the saturdays lottery at the beginning of the week I would spend it to if needs be, but I would at least make sure the lottery was on for the draw and return the ticket to its rightful place so all syndicate members could see it was on for the draw.

We are not talking £1m stolen here, but again its not stolen if the draw was placed. The issue is lieing which makes the borrowing look like theift as she covered up the borrowing with the denial.

Fair enough property is property but no court would entertain this action its a company issue, if the company decides there are sufficient grounds for a sacking so be it, then the OP's friend/daughter or whoever has the oppertunity to either take it further or grin and bare it and walk away.
All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

how did the other lottery syndicate members know money was missing? was the "tin" just sat around for anyone to help themselves?

where i did it, it was done online and i paid for it by card and people gave me cash or transferred money online. So of course I could spend the cash i had from them, before buying tickets, I didn't have to use those exact notes to pay for the tickets.

it all sounds very strange that the 3 people spotted her taking it somehow and didn't at the time say "oh, whats going on" but just reported to management.
