PPI didnt really become mainstream until the early 90s. There was some in the late 80s but earlier than that is rare.
It pre-dates regulation and data protection act. So, records are likely to be close to non-existent unless you can prove you paid it.
Leeds Perm merged with Halifax which then merged with BOS (now HBOS).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Hi, I have had one PPI Claim against Barclaycard upheld, just over £3000K but another one refused because it was purchased online. At the time of the purchase I had two major pre-existing medical conditions, another Mortgage related PPI policy in place, plus great sickness and redundancy terms from my employer, all things that would indicate misselling IF I had bought the policy over the phone. I am going to ask Barclaycard to reconsider my claim as I don't think the medium by which the insurance was sold should dictate whether or not it was appropriate for/missold to me. I know it's much more difficult to get them to settle claims of PPI sold online though. Any advice or examples of how others have done this to help me put my case please? Thank you.0

If you bought it online then that means nobody has sold it to you. You've bought it. It is well accepted by the FOS that in the event of an online sale, unless there happened to be a pre ticked box for PPI or the policy particulars provided were materially misleading, if the product wasn't suitable for you it's your own fault. You wouldn't buy a coat from a catalogue online and then write to them accusing them of misselling the coat to you.
I could be wrong but I think you're flogging a dead horse with this one.0 -
Hi
I sent a letter to HSBC 5 years ago regarding PPI and received an unsatisfactory response; my first daughter was born and I have never followed up! It keeps going to the bottom of the 'to do list'.
Is there a company or individuals that can file a PPI claim on my behalf (for a fee presumably?
Many thanks in advance for any guidance!

The rules are set by the regulator. Whether you do it yourself or use a company, the exact same process and rules apply.
You have 6 months to appeal a decision. After which you are barred from future complaint or appeal. The timebar is only overruled in exceptional cases and you have to justify the whole period. Childbirth is not sufficient to justify a 5 year delay. Typical examples given by the FOS are incapacity for the whole period or death or an immediate family member.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). You need to be more specific about what exactly constitutes an "unsatisfactory response". If your complaint went through full investigation and was rejected then you would have been given your FOS rights in the decision letter. This would have said that you have six months to refer the matter to FOS. If not then the matter is generally closed and you have no further recourse.
The only way FOS would accept a referral out of time is if you had truly exceptional circumstances which meant you could not refer the matter within the six month time frame. Things like serious ill health. I doubt the birth of a child would qualify and even if it did, you would be hard pushed to argue that you have not had any time whatsoever in over 5 years to refer the matter.
Some banks are being asked to review complaints proactively following flaws with their process determined by either auditors or the regulator, but this is a voluntary thing. You can't force them and nor can any fee-charging company.
If you never got as far as getting a final response letter (maybe they required further info to investigate and you never provided it) then by all means pursue it (preferably yourself).0 -
I was resident in the Isle of Man at the time I had PPI insurance with a uk company and am still resident in the Isle of Man. Can I reclaim my PPI? and if so, as I am not a uk taxpayer should I have to pay income tax?0
