We were told we had to have life insurance when we took out our first mortagage on out first house, so we paid over £12 every month for years, with The Black Horse, we were told this by a financial adviser, is this the same as PPI, or is life insurance different.

    Thanks

Life assurance is not PPI and until the early 2000s, most lenders required life assurance as a condition of lending. Nothing wrong with that. Nowadays most require only buildings insurance but occasionally life assurance does still pop up as a require (mainly business customers).

Unless you are immortal or are living alone with no spouse/partner and/or children then there is no reason for complaint on life assurance.

  • Hi There

Lloyds have told me that PPI was not taken out with my credit card however has asked that if I think this is incorrect to provided them with proof. I do not have the paperwork anymore, am I able to ask them to prove there was no PPI instead?

No., You have to prove there was since you are doing the complaining.

Lloyds are saying they cant find evidence you have it but if you can, then supply it to them. If you think they still hold records (I am assuming this is a closed account as credit card PPI on open accounts is easy to spot as it appears on the statement) and you think they are not telling the truth then you can spend £10 and do a data subject access request and see what it results in.

They do not have to prove you didnt have something. That is like asking you to prove ghosts do not exist.

I believe B&W only transacted via brokers. So, they would not have sold PPI to you. The broker may well have done. Although brokers didnt become regulated until January 2005. So, this would be pre-regulation and they broker would not have to answer your complaint but just bar it as pre-regulation. you would not have access to the FOS either.

  • About three years ago i contacted my credit card company 'MBNA' by phone and requested they remove the PPI they had place on my account as i had never requested it and no one had previously advised me about it, they said i could only claim back what i had payed that year which was a small amount about £70 if i remember rightly, because records didn't go back to when i first got the card. I don't really use the card that much so it's not a great amount i had been paying over the years (at least 14). Is it worth seeing if they do owe me more.
  • Me and my husband took out a £2000 loan in 2004 and were offered ppi and were told we would be covered if my partner (now husband) lost his job. Unfortunately a year or so later that happened! We tried to claim on the ppi but they said we couldn't do that. Were we miss sold the ppi? Am asking because we knew we had it. Thanks
