  • thank you zx81, I thought so but worth checking.
  • Hello...
My mum has just casually mentioned that I definitely had PPI on an old credit card with MBNA. I had the card around 1998-2006 and I don't have any of the old statements or know what my account number was. Is this a totally lost cause? If they don't keep records older than 6 years, how would MBNA be able to theoretically pay me/argue anyway?

I had a couple of mortgages around this time too and again have no paperwork anymore - can't even remember who they were with - is there any way of accessing this information? I've been with my current account provider since I was 16 but they also say they can't provide statements older than 6 years. Seems bonkers to me.
    Any advice appreciated.

To see what info is left you can either hpone and ask, which it seems you already have and they haven't found you, or send a SAR and £10.

You are not due a refund of anything, you complain that a product was missold, so it's up to you to provide this information. If they still have records they'll decide whether you were or not, if you don't like their answer you can go to the FOS.
    Without records though, you're stuffed.

Search the forum for info about MPPI, totally different to PPI.

Hi, was wondering if anyone can help please.

I used the Resolver link on the MSE website to submit a PPI claim on an Egg Loan I look out in March 1999. I filled out the form and attached a copy of the Egg personal loan agreement showing Loan Payment Protection of £644.80.

I thought (but I might be mistaken) that Egg Loan claims were made through Canada Square Operations in Worthing. But today I have received a letter from Barclays Bank in Leicester that says they have reviewed my PPI complaint and their internal system evidence and they are unable to find a PPI policy on the account held in my name (do they have all the Egg loan information going back that far?) They have asked for a copy of the policy document if I have it or any information to support my claim.

The only information I have is the Loan Agreement with the agreement number, amount of loan, amount of loan payment protection and total is the only information I have, it is signed on behalf of Egg and dated.

I`m not really sure what to do now and if there is anything I could do? Please can anyone help? Many thanks.

Citibank (aka Canada Square) do seem to have the Egg Loan PPI complaints, not sure why Barclays got it as they only bought the credit card business from Citibank (in 2011) so Canada Square deal with the rest of the Egg business including some older credit cards.

I'd speak to Barclays and establish if the complaint should have gone to Canada Square, certainly the link below says they deal with all Egg loans as they separate out the card ones

If this is the case, it's just another reason to complain directly and not use third party tools like Resolver

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

thank you Nasqueron for taking the time to reply. I suppose I assumed Resolver would send the complaint to Canada Square and was a little shocked when Barclays replied. I will give Barclays a ring, thanks again

Resolver can be useful in some ways, but for the most part is just an unnecessary third party. It is not infallible and, of course, the terms and conditions will absolve them of any liability for such mistakes.

Having said all that, I'm surprised Barclays haven't simply forwarded your complaint to Canada Square (or suggested you do it).

I have just spoken to a really nice lady at Barclays PPI claims and she said the PPI complaint for the Egg loan is Canada Square, she did apologise for me getting a standard letter instead of being referred to the correct organisation. Thanks again Nasqueron, I will send a written form in myself this time

Moneyineptitude, no Barclays didn`t offer to send it on or suggested I did. I will be doing this myself this afternoon and won`t use Resolver. Thanks for replying
