PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

I did not think i ever had PPI and never would have agreed to it, but in December my ex made a claim through one of the PPI companies and i received nearly £600 (half of the claim) so it got me thinking about looking into what else i had.
I had 2 loans with First Direct one started in July 2005 and another Feb 2009, (these are what i can see on Noddle). I also had a Sainsbury loan which i took out in 2010 so i don't think they would have added anything that recent without making it clear to me though.
I was going to write to First Direct using the template on here asking to see my loan agreements. is there anything else i should do?0 -

Ring up and ask them first, they can normally tell from loan numbers (they should have them even if you don't) if there was PPI or not.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Hi.. sorry newbie on the forum apologies if in wrong place..!! We are currently claiming back our own PPI. My husband had a Barclay card for many years (closed in 2008) we found a statement which included PPI so we have made a claim. They have written to him requesting information about alternative insurance...he does not even recall them 'selling' it to him.... do we have to provide this info? (We have info about one policy we took out in 2002 but nothing prior to this) Many thanks0

You are making an allegation of miss-selling so yes it's up to you to evidence it. If they are asking about alternative insurance it would suggest you said in your complaint you had alternative cover and so didn't need the PPI and it is only logical they would ask for evidence of this. If you didn't mention this in the complaint then simply reply and say you didn't have it. Any claims you made you should be able to provide evidence for.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

You are making an allegation of wrongdoing and it sounds like you have said that alternative insurance was held in your complaint. They wouldnt ask for it unless you were using it as one of your complaint reasons.
So, they want to check this alternative insurance to see if there was overlap. They are allowed to do this and it is quite logical that they do it.
Hopefully, you have this alternative insurance and were not telling porkies.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Hi
I wonder if anyone else has had this recently?
I applied for PPI to lots of different companies around two years ago and all but one said there was nothing to be refunded. I should have done as Martin says and followed through with the ombudsman but I didn't.
Now out of the blue last week Citi cards sent me a letter saying they had re looked at the claim and decided I had £265 to come back to me. I was astounded really, but then made me think again I shouldn't have settled with the others. I wonder why out of the blue they would be re looking at claims? Any one got any ideas?0 -
Citi are looking at previous claims that they initially refused, you are not alone with this.
If you thought the other PPI that you won redress on were not calculated correctly, you should have queried this at the time.
Are there any that you think were incorrect?0 -
Cheers. That's what I thought.0

Slightly confused by your response .... yes my husband had various different payment protection insurance set up to cover all his out goings if he was incapacitated ... as it was well over 10 years ago we just don't have the information anymore. (We only have the details of 1 policy taken out in 2002 when we moved house and changed all the cover we had). Where does telling 'porky pies' come in ... I do not understand?0

The credit card was taken out around 1999.... my husband has no knowledge of being offered PPI or agreeing to it. He also can't recall if application was on paper or over the telephone. At that point he was self employed so would not have been any use anyway? (That is why he had insurance to cover all his outgoings)0
