  • I have just received a letter from Canada square for my Egg card it states they defending on the sale of my first account as this was done on line and I would have actively needed to tick the PPI box, this is fine although it would have been a brain wave moment if I did as I was all about keeping payments low and not adding any extras. They also state that they are upholding my complaint on the second sale and paying me back £1,783 less tax, I find this a little odd as I only had one account with them an egg card applied for once and the only account number stated on the letter is for this one card! I'm quite confused as they don't supply a break down of what was paid when, has anyone else experienced this?

They have also sent the letter in my married name but told me that I will need to prove another copy of my wedding certificate apparently a copy certified by a qualified accountant is not acceptable but one certified by someone working a t the post office is, go figure!!! I'm just going to send my original and worry about getting the copy back later, I can order a new one if it goes missing!!

I do like to read things thoroughly which is why I would rather they state why they upheld my complaint, I wouldn't like to think I was getting money back that I didn't deserve. It makes me feel a little odd that it would be an auto payout. However the loan was taken with HFC who were not the nicest to deal with, they would harass me on a monthly basis trying to get me in cause they could provide me with "a better rate". The branch was one of those you had to ring the bell to get in and on at least one occasion I felt like I was being held hostage till I signed.

Fair enough, you are obviously in the minority. However, a lot of companies will never tell you as they don't want their complaint handling procedures becoming common knowledge. Also, when the vast majority don't care why their complaint is being upheld, it is much more time and cost effective to send standard uphold letters as opposed to requiring the case handler to write a bespoke explanation. If you've received an offer and are happy with it then I personally would not waste time in pursuit of an explanation which is unlikely to be forthcoming or to add anything to your redress.
  • Hi all I just want some advice on PPI. We just found out today that we have been paying PPI on a finance for the last 9 years (caravan purchase). The underwriters were changing and they wrote to us hence we found out we had PPI which includes critical illness. We never received any policies or documents and had no idea this existed. This finance was initially with Capital bank which was transferred over to Black Horse. There is a critical illness part in the policy and my husband was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2013. I don't know if this is covered and if we claim on the policy and got turned down does that preclude claiming back the ppi premiums. I'm not sure which route to take, whether to just claim the premiums or claim on the policy. has anyone ever had this experience. thank you

PPI doesn't usually come with critical illness, life insurance does....
who sold you the loan and when did they sell it?

  • It was capital bank back in 2006 then transferred to black horse finance. We received a letter two days ago from the underwriters of the critical insurance part of the policy saying it was being moved to Scottish widows. That was when we found out about the ppi existence. We have no documents whatsoever and even if we did ask they probably wont have the original copies that date back to 2006.
  • Still waiting for my refund from HSBC they confirmed they received my acceptance on the 9th, I know they say it can take up to 28 days but really what takes them so long!! I sent an acceptance to santander a couple of days after this and had the money back less than a week after posting it!
  • Hi All

This is my first post- hope you can help. My husband had a PPI claim with Barclaycard that was rejected. It went to the Ombudsman who didn't investigate fully but sent back a letter saying it was unlikely he would win so we just dropped it. However yesterday a letter arrived saying they wanted to re-open the claim as a "full review of all the evidence could potentially result in a different outcome".

They are asking for proof of savings when the PPI policy started (1999) My husband doesn't even know if he had any savings let alone any evidence of them. Also asking for confirmation of take home pay and whether it was weekly or monthly.

    Any advice please?

When you complained, did the letter state your husband had savings? Many template letters include that in the list but you are meant to remove the things that don't apply.

If you left that in, then they are just asking for evidence to back it up. If there were no savings of note, then just reply saying so. If there were, then supply a copy statement. Savings of note tends to be at least a years worth of income.

  • Hi

I had PPI as part of House of Fraser store card - I have the original agreement with the box ticked - and as usual we all thought it came with card and there was no discussion about not taking it. This was taken around 1998 until around 2006. Santander say that because the box is ticked they will not do anything about it. It was of course previously Capital One I think who were the original lenders then selling out to Santander. They don't want to know. Santander have refused (about 2 years ago I have to say). Can I now do this again ? This time around they seem to have dedicated people dealing with this on their website but unsure as the previous letter said that it was their final decision...obviously not mine. Am interested as the previous post seems to suggest some Banks have changed their minds. Santander though keep saying they did not sign up to the code ?

    Thanks
