Sorry in advance this is my first time posting but needed some advice.
I rang Barclays earlier today to query whether or not I had taken out the above as I used to have a current account with them until 2011.
Surprisingly the woman I spoke to was really nice and helpful and went through to their office in Dublin to do a search on my previous addresses and came back with the following.
1 I had a loan in 1999 that had PPI on it
2 I had an overdraft from 1999 - 2011 with PPI on it
They are now sending me a questionnaire for me to complete and return but I don't know what it will be about or what I should write as I worked for the Local Authority full time so would't of taken out PPI as i would've been covered by work for illness etc!
The only way I would of agreed to this is if it was sold to me as a pre-condition of me being successful in my application.
I also was off work with serious medical problems for approx 1 year during my time banking with them and the bank was aware of this and never brought to my attention that I had bought this protection.
Any help / advice offered would be wonderful0 -

Look for verifiable mis-selling reasons if you want to be assured of success.0 -

Your situation is similar to mine, that I had full sickness pay from work and therefore didn't require the cover as I would have been able to pay my cards/loans etc... even if I was off work sick for even a year or two.
I've had several successful reclaims on PPI and I have always based my claims around this.
I believe that like mine, it is a case of it being missold, as you should have been asked about sick pay from work when it was discussed (if it was) about adding it to your loan/overdraft. Upon telling the advisor, they should have said, well you don't really need it then.
The second paragraph of yours I've quoted, is not basis for a complaint though IMO. This is because when you were off work, the onus is on you to make the PPI claim and not the bank, again IMO. You may have been off with a pre existing medical condition which would exclude you from claiming anyway.
But as I say, even if you were off with a non pre existing medical condition, the cover wasn't worth paying for, as you already had suitable arrangements with work, in the case of sickness.0 -

Any views on using this versus sending a template letter? Has anyone used the Barclays service succesfully who cares to comment?

template letters have a lower success rate than personalised complaints. Mainly as people tend to leave things in a template which can be shown to be wrong and that reduces your credibility. In cases where a judgement call needs to be made, the most credible side tends to win.
Thanks for the reply. I thought the idea with template letters was that you personalise them, but I'm new to this world. If we say I approached the two channels with the same (lack of) guidance about how to maximise my chances, i.e. they are equally 'personalised' which would be best?
As some might guess, I am asking for help getting a successful outcome in terms of what kinds of 'tactics' to use to maximise my chances. I have been paying PPI on my Barclaycard for a number of years, and I am keen to cash in. Happy to provide dates and figures, but I have no paperwork, and I can't remember if I signed up to PPI fair and square or not.
With respect to all, this is not something I'll lose sleep over. Not to antagonise anyone with a moral point of view on this, just being honest.

Nothing wrong with using the form on line, it's just a copy of the paper form, that you would get from them to claim PPI. I would fill in the forms online. Or if you prefer, you can always request a hard copy of the form to be sent to you.
In my case, I got a letter from Barclaycard saying PPI was possibly miss-sold to me. The letter said to visit the site and fill in the form or request a hard copy of the form to be sent to me.
I filled in the on line form and they then sent me a letter to confirm they had received my complaint.
In my case, I got a further letter 6-8 weeks later, to say my complaint had been upheld and a cheque from them.
So, if you believe it was miss-sold then fill in the form on line and wait and see. You will need account details though, so if your not sure, you may need to contact them to get that info.0 -

I have registered today as I have a couple of questions. I have been a long term reader over the years and have got plenty of advice. However it's come to the point I need to ask something.
Anyway, I have just started a PPI complaint with Natwest bank. I do not have any paperwork. I took the loan out in November 2004 for £5000 a few years later I increased it to approx £15,000. This was to pay back what was left on the original loan. I then consolidated my loan payments with my overdraft which took it to approx £17,500. I then consolidated my loan again to lower the monthly payments. All with Natwest.
I have been made an offer which personally I think I'm happy with bit I just want to make sure I have not been done over.
The offer £1,185.92
Am I entitled to call them and ask them HOW they came to that amount or should I just accept it?
Should I get the financial ombudsman involved or would that make it worse?

They will only pay you what you actually paid, so if you consolidated the first one with the second but didn't pay PPI on the second one, you didn't pay mch.

They have admitted that PPI was on all the loans including the consolidated ones.
I will give them a call on Monday and ask them to break down how they have worked out the above amount.0
