If your mother had no need of the PPI, she may have had a good sick package from work, savings and life insurance and could have repaid this card in a any event, write back to them and reject the decision, add the extra info and ask why this insurance was taken during a telephone conversation when there was no need for it.

I must admit, I find this whole PPI thing as confusing as hell. I took out a mortgage in 1999 and finally finished paying it off in 2011. During this time, for about the first 9 years, I had PPI on the mortgage as well as life insurance... ...at about the 9 year mark I was on the phone with the provider making extra payments and asked wether I needed to pay the PPI any more and was told I could stop it whenever I wanted, so I did. However, when I originally took it out I was led to believe it was a condition of the mortgage?!

...is it worth putting a claim in for this or are mortgage PPI pretty rare to get refunded?

    It's very rare.
Be aware that it may well have actually been a condition of the mortgage that you took out PPI to protect it. It was certainly often the case in the 1990's. Obviously they relaxed this ruling when allowing you to cancel.
It's also difficult to see on what basis you could complain of mis-selling...

To make a complaint you have to be able to show it wasn't necessary, that you didn't need the insurance or that it woulnd't have paid out if it were to be used for a claim
Wait till the policy documents come back to see what it is exactly. You also need to remember who sold it to you too.

You're not 'claiming something back' you are making a complaint that the insurance wasn't necessary, or wouldn't have paid out.

You complain to whoever sold it to you, so it'll be harrington brooks, but they wouldn't have been regulated 9 years ago, so can dsimiss your complaint if they want to. After that, you have nowhere to go.
So, follow the instructions below, forget the bits about getting your policy, fill the form in and send it off.

AAlso, if you are still paying it, and it's covering nothing, and you really don't need it, cancel it.

  • Anyone ever heard of MPPI on a credit card????!!!!! I made the discovery when I complained to Halifax about PPI on a Sainsbury’s Credit Card, they wrote back stating I had MPPI but after investigation could find no evidence of miss-selling. I have now passed all the information onto FOS.

    I think you're mistaken.
You can't have MPPI on a credit card, only in relation to a mortgage.

Did you complain to Sainsburys about your PPI? Sainsburys are Bank of Scotland, not Halifax.

    Hi

I have no recollection of requesting PPI for a cc, so I asked for evidence that I had requested. I was sent a copy of the initial application form for the RBS Advanta which has subsequently gone through 2 iterations - MINT and RBS Mastercard. Anyway, is an application form enough to prove I requested PPI 15 years ago? Or should I be asking for something else??

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!
