Hi. With reading all the great stories of ppi and congrats to those of you that have won, I have now found out that years ago you had to opt out of paying ppi. Our mbna card was opened many many years ago and we are paying ppi on it. Anyone got any idea of the time scale for the opting out process. Any information would be great. Thanks

Is the general public so naive as to believe the banks have our best interests at heart where ppi is concerned?

At least most are not so naive to believe claims companies do.

Claim companies don't hide their true motivation. Neither is the consumer under any illusion as to what those motivations are.
  • After a very long process of rejections and disputes with Halifax, i called them recently to get an update. It is now 11 weeks since my last correspondence with them. The first correspondence was in July.

i've been advised that my claim has been upheld after new evidence was received. They are now doing "calculations".

When i asked how long this would take, the guy said he had no idea. "it could be weeks"

Obviously i dont want to take a customer service agent in Mumbai's word for it. but i was wondering if this was normal? he said it was, and they had initially responded within the standard 8 weeks.

    Thanks as always

The Bank employee is correct regardless of where in the world he was situated when he informed you of that.
I don't know why you feel you can trust faceless internet posters over Bank staff!

haha fair point. maybe it's my experience of working in call centres that doesnt give me much faith.
    ;)

I suppose my question was more around the process. is it normal to take so long after a claim is upheld?

The problem is that there is no "process" for reconsidering PPI complaints. You bypassed the normal process (referring to FOS) after your initial rejection and convinced the Bank to change their mind. You'll now have to wait for a period not defined by any "process" I'm afraid.
    I wouldn't hold my breath.

I have been corresponding with Nat West concerning Mortgage protection insurance that we were told was compulsory, despite both being in jobs that paid 12 month sick paid. After 8 weeks , and having sent copies of everything they have replied saying we have no MRPI. On the 2nd of every month they take payment out of our current account, clearly shows as NW mortgage MRP. We have several recent letters from them 'Important changes to the terms and conditions of your Natwest mortgage repayment protector policy, and copies of original polices which we sent. How can they say they have no record of any insurance? They said they can look again if it was took out under different name/address but it wasnt. They last took payment 2nd November (last week). Surely they can see we are paying it?

The insurance side would look at name & address and may not have access to bank statements. So, if the insurance is logged at an old address, it may not show.

    Hi,

I need info from anyone as to how long Citi Bank are taking to pay back PPI claims...they are quoting 15 days ( that has long passed).

For the people asking about the Halifax...I was nearly 5 months and had to e-mail CEO...I had the money in days.

    Thanks

    LL xx
