  • Hi all,

I have already had a successful PPI Claim for a Cahoot loan from Santander which i did myself and got payout last yr. As the deadline was looming I finally got myself together to do my Egg Card PPI complaint. i have letters with opening& closing of the account & quite a few statements showing the credit CRP PPI payments on them. I filled in one of the generic PPI claim forms (probably from this site or the FOS or somewhere) , got all my paperwork together , photocopied everything & posted it all on Mon 5th August. I was unsure who to post it to so I posted a copy both to Canada Square Citibank & Barclays.

One thing I wanted to comment on is that the address the FCA website gives for Barclays is really odd:
Postal address: FREEPOST BARCLAYS PPI COMPLAINTS

    ww.fca.org.uk/ppi/contact-barclays

I'm fairly sure the same address is given somewhere on the Barclay's site as well. When i went to the post office to post to here they said it was impossible without a postcode! So I found an alternative PPI complaint address from the Barclaycard website.

As my Egg card account opened in 1999 and was closed in about 2008 it is prob not dealt with by Barcl. anyway.

Barclays have not written back as I asked them to but CSO have written back acknowledging receipt of my complaint in a letter dated 10 August. They say an investigation will be carried out and they will write to me again 4 weeks after the date they received my complaint.

I am just worried as this 4weeks will fall outside the PPI deadline. If my complaint fails will i still be able to reclaim via the FOS or FCA? When they wrote to me they have spelled my road name wrong on my current postal address (not the addresses when I held the Egg Card), should i contact them to say the address they hold for me is slightly wrong?

Thanks for your help & good luck to others,

    🤞🏼
  • Further to what I've just said , as I got the Egg card in 1999 i can't remember how i was sold or missold the PPI (CRP). It was either by phone or a ticked box on a website i think? I don't think i can invoke Plevin as the claim is from before 2008??. Is that correct? In any case i'm saying i was mis-sold as i never claimed on my CCRP even though i was made redundant and had several periods of being out of work during the timespan of the Egg card and the CRP. Should this be ok or d'you think i shld phone the Citibank CSqOps helpline and invoke Plevin?

    Thanks!

You have already complained, now you wait for the outcome, and if you disagree you refer it to the ombudsman.
They will automatically check if your complaint falls under Plevin if it's rejected.

You complain to the seller because you're making a mis selling complaint.

You're not making a 'I don't agree with who my insurance was transferred to after the first insurer no longer provided cover' complaint.

This makes total sense.....but now Im a bit MORE confused if that's possible?!*?.

I've been advised to send a complaint to the Underwriters as well as whoever has taken over the store cards I hold (all hard copies & recorded delivery due to timescales). Im confused over the Underwriters bit. Do I write to that original company or have to try and find out who (if anyone) has taken them over too?

ie. Debenhams Store Card > GE > Santander > New Day…….but still write to Santander
Debenhams Store Card Underwriters > Financial Insurance & Assurance Co Ltd (As at 2003)
New Look Store Card > GE > Santander > New Day....etc
New Look Store Card Underwriters > IKANO (As at 2007)
I could go on as Ive got shed loads, but I wont...and where does Genworth fit into this little lot...if anywhere?

If Im only complaining to the sellers why am I writing to the Underwriters too? Am I just hedging my bets in case the sellers tell me to do one or am I missing something else???

This last weeks learning curve has been a 180 vertical wall for me, wood for the trees and all that, so please be gentle, my head is about to shatter:huh::doh:!
    .
Think Ive got myself into a right old mess! :wall::think::wall: Stroll on 28th…..… and time for bed said Florence;)

You complain to Santander, they are currently considering complaints on behalf of the underwriter Financial Insurance Company Limited and will respond accordingly.

Thanks for replying so quick Bermonia, much appreciated.

Can anyone help me with the above (taken from my earlier post but I don't know how to keep the 'quote box' when I break it down to highlight aspects - sorry). I'm really trying to understand what I'm doing instead of jumping blindly through it. Thanks for your time I know you're all busy.x
  • Hi All, Firstly - I know its my fault... I used a claims management company - not knowingly, I entered into the agreement thinking there was little chance of me getting anything out of this PPI ... well after nearly 30 years of history to go through the result was very surprising, many of the companies I have used did owe me money. I read on MSE how easy the process is and the actual ease of the entire requirement to contact the banks yourself etc. I am kicking myself and to be honest for the money this company wants from me, makes me pig sick. After all, this is my money that I would have saved if not being ripped off by the banks so for the minimal amount of document work, emailing and the odd phone call - they want to charge me HOW MUCH... its a complete scam. I have worked hard all my life to earn and scrimp by, the chance to get my head above water for the first time and the rug is just pulled from your feet...sickening. Money for old rope - if only I had taken the time to examine the fine print - the % was not clear to me until I was told I was due some money, it should be upfront and well advertised, and this company now have me over a barrel. I can complain and go to the ombudsman, or just move to other side of the planet and stick two fingers up to them - but I am quite attached to the old place. There must be more suckers like me out there with this story - did you have any way out of paying nearly half of your reclaimed blood sweat and tears !

I can complain and go to the ombudsman

Only if you have a valid complaint can you go to the Ombudsman. To do so, you'd need to show that the firm's fees were not clearly stated. I doubt you can do this satisfactorily.

You also can't complain simply because Claim Companies are not value for money, I'm afraid. They are indeed exorbitantly expensive, but you will have signed a contract detailing exactly the percentage of any redress you would be charged.

There really is no point crying over spilt milk now...
  • Hi guys,
I put in 2 complaints in July with Barclaycard/Egg for PPI. I'm sure I had PPI on them and was missold. These cards were from I think 1996 to 2004

The letters which came back were almost identical

    Barclay Card
    1) "We have been unable to find a BarclayCard account in your name using the information you have provided or that we currently have available on our internal systems. Our investigation has included checking our records using information such as your name, address and date of birth.
I am sorry that without identifying an account in your name I am unable to investigate this futher and your complaint will be closed"

    Egg
    2) "We have been unable to find an Egg account in your name using the information you have provided or that we currently have available on our internal systems. Our investigation has included checking our records using information such as your name, address and date of birth.

Your Egg account may not have been one of those transferred to Barclaycard in November 2011 and may remain with Citi Bank. We are unable to help with your complaint because we do not have your account information. If you wish to contact City Bank you can write to them at:"

How best to respond to these please? I dont have any documents rat all egarding the accounts, not can I get any and did move address a lot in my youth. I do know the address where I took them both out as I turned 18, and this was sent on my claims. So I would have hoped from my address, name and DOB they would have information. Both the claims were done on the same webform on the Barclaycard web site. I have remembered the 16 digit number for the Barclaycard and can provide more addresses.

So they've "closed" my complaints with a standard response.
    Many thanks for any advise!
  • If I previously had an IVA, can I claim PPI or would the IVA company claim it on my behalf to repay the creditors. |I have completed my IVA
