Only question I have left is why the new law 2017 only covers PPI? Just seems very odd.
What new "law"? The PPI scandal was a regulatory, not legal, matter.

PPI redress has always been a pre-bankruptcy asset belonging to the OR for redistribution to former creditors. You can read a fully comprehensive explanation of the rules with regard PPI redress and bankruptcy in this thread which originally dates from 2011:

Not sure what changed in 2017...
  • I think that he believes that the 29th August deadline for PPI reclaims was imposed by a change in the law.

We had several old loans, mortgage and credit cards going back to the 90s, many of which we think included mis-sold PPI. I keep reading on here about how easy reclaiming PPI is but we are struggling to the point of considering giving up or handing it all over to an agency. I know this means we will lose 20 -25% of any payout but at the moment we stand to lose 100%! Before we go down this route, can anyone help with the following please...

    Our problems are:

    1. We don’t have much info on most of the credit agreements so need to find out if they included PPI. I used to think we were both reasonably intelligent but trying to get our heads round this is like knitting fog! We are both registered disabled with complex medical conditions and have very little energy to fight our way through all the information, let alone the barriers these big institutions use, eg Barclaycard do not provide an email address and their ‘contact us’ form on their website will not accept enough characters to send them the template letter Martin advises to ask for info on any ppi in our credit agreement.
Its too too late to ask for info, make a claim.

We just spent 40 mins to Barclays Indian call centre getting absolutely nowhere with a lady who couldn’t understand what we were asking for and who said she couldn’t even give us an email address for Barclays. A google search hit a brick wall too !

Did you google "barclays PPI claim" ?

Sending snail mail is an option but obviously slow and time is of the essence! Does anyone have an email address for all the institutions such as: Barclaycard, Barclays Bank, Halifax, Lloyds, C&G, Capital One, or should we just request the info by snail mail?

First hit that isnt an advert for "Barclays PPI claim" takes you to this page where you can fill an online form in.

    https://www.barclays.co.uk/important-information/ppi/

Just google the same for the others.

    2. Assuming we manage to request this info, they have 30 days to respond which obviously takes us over the 29th August deadline. I read Martins comments that some financial institutions will take the enquiry as the first stage of the complaint but is there really any point contacting ones not on Martins list as surely they will just prevaricate to prevent having to pay?
Its claiming that is the deadline, not getting an answer. Just put a claim in, say you had it and the reasons why it was invalid. Make sure its a claim and not an enquiry.

    3. Can anyone recommend an agency to help us sort this mess out which is thorough, helpful and has reasonable charges?

Agencies will want all the info you have to make your claim and ask the same question the banks will of you, so cannot possibly save you any time or effort and make the odds you will be rejected higher since they dont know why you think you were missold it.

    Many thanks for reading.

I’d like to echo everything ‘anotherJoe’ has said but with the word ‘complaint’ instead of ‘claim’.
    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

Hi Nenen, Its my first post on here even though I've used this site for years and find it invaluable, but I feel so strongly about your post 'confused to the point of giving up or using an agency' (sorry don't know how to link it) that I've had to write.

I am in the same kind of situation as you, but I'm trying to do it on my own. The stress of this process IS impacting greatly on my disability/health conditions. I've tried CAB who couldn't help at all, Which directed me to Resolver as does this site......but when you read these forums they say avoid Resolver as its not all its cracked up to be. Even reading Resolver reviews they only come up with a score of 3.9/10.

Personally I'm reading through MSE forums as there's some great advice on here, but the best thing I would recommend is using the FCA website. They have links to companies old and new and you can go directly to each individual bank/website with a couple of clicks. The websites also have phone numbers attached so if you're struggling with admin as I am, call them instead, but do be prepared to be on the phone for a long time. I've explained I have 'health issues' and each company I've called have accommodated my 'confusion' brilliantly. They take their time to help with any questions you may have and if you want, will go on to raise the form for you over the phone. I'm just taking a note of the date and time I'm talking to each operator to keep a log for myself.

Im going to keep plugging away until I cant physically do it any longer (not long now:(), and then I intend to look for a CMC regardless of what others say as I've still got about 22 accounts left to look into...what was I thinking back in the day? I KNOW!!!. I'm finding Store Cards and Mortgages from back then the hardest, and finding this whole thing a lot more difficult and stressful than I ever imagined, as some days the exhaustion of dealing with 'life' is about as much as I can manage too.

Keep on keeping on Nenen, there's plenty of people out there in the same boat as us, just do what you can and then if you really have to, let a CMC pick up on the remainder. Sometimes its just the thought of someone else taking the stress away or guiding you when you're not that sure that makes all the difference, even if you have to give the exact same info to them as to a bank..... I get it. ;)

Oh, and why did I leave it so late? I started this PPI paperwork in Apr, then the DWP sent me a 'form' to fill in (40 pages in total also requiring medical evidence I had to source/produce/integrate into my 'form'). The last 4 months have been taken up with DLA/PIP conversion paperwork and the nosedive my mental health always takes as a result of these forms that are there to help/assist me! Sometimes not everything is as plain sailing as you want it to be. Good luck Nenen:beer:
  • Hi
Having a nightmare trying to claim off St Andrews group. I originally got my morgage protection through bradford and bingley who transferred it to STAG shortly after. My mortgage was originally with Bradford and bingley , then YBS , now Lloyds. I thought I needed to claim back through STAG but they are saying its through whoever my mortgage is with. Is this correct? Hope someone can help

You complain to the seller because you're making a mis selling complaint.

You're not making a 'I don't agree with who my insurance was transferred to after the first insurer no longer provided cover' complaint.
  • Brilliant. thank you
  • First post - better late than never, I hope!

I apologise if this has already been covered, I couldn't find anything on a quick scan through.

All of my attempts to claim directly have been responded to that the companies have no information that PPI had been sold and therefore they cannot follow up my claims, and the files are closed.

If I don't have any information either, so nothing to submit to the Ombudsman, how do I proceed?

You give up. Unless you can find documentary evidence of PPI in your own archive, there is nothing more you can do.
