i even included a copy of the back and front of the actual store card, they have replied saying they cannot find any details despite this, any ideas of my next step?
Clearly the Bank no longer have any records of your account, so if you have no records of your own any complaint is scuppered before it's begun.

You lovely people,
I asked Barclays if ever I had taken out PPI on my old Egg credit card and I was surprised to discover that I had done for a period of a few years, dating back to the 1990s. I then sent off a complaint giving as much information as I could about my situation at the time. They have said that the information I have given appears to be insufficient to determine whether or not I was missold PPI.
I am aware of three things:
1) You need to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth in these matters, as to do otherwise may be fraudulent.
2) Just because I was sold PPI does not mean I was missold PPI and there may well be nothing due to me.
3) Much information is required about my situation in the late 1990s, practically 20 years ago. I don't have much of this information any more, and I don't think that's unreasonable. In a situation like this, how someone presents their case can make a considerable difference, and this is where I would appreciate help!
I am not sure what they are looking for to determine whether or not the PPI was sold correctly or otherwise. Having searched through previous comments in this thread, I suspect the answer will be "well, it depends precisely what the PPI's terms and conditions were". However, I no longer have a copy of these terms and conditions, because it was taken out so long ago... and judging by other comments in this thread, it may equally well be the case that Barclays have not retained that data either. That said, as it was an Egg credit card, it may well be the case that someone on this board has a copy of the terms and conditions and is in a position to offer comment.
The page on the main MSE site says "The way providers decide, based on the balance of evidence they've got, is "Was this likely to be correct?" All you need do is answer the question about whether it happened to you, NOT "Can I prove it happened to me?"" With this in mind, any comments you can make about my submission, or ways to rephrase it, would be most welcome. I am aware that the information I am supplying is flimsy, but it may still be sufficient to meet the "was this likely to be correct?" test even if not the "can I prove it happened to me?" test.
"Dear Customer Relations Department,
This is in response to my PPI complaint dated xxxxx, to which you applied your reference number xxxxxxxxxx.
The complaint concerns PPI sold on xxxxxxx 19xx. As this is so long ago, I have not retained all the paperwork relating to the transaction. Similarly, I do not have full details of my financial situation many years ago. Nevertheless, this does not mean that I may not have been missold PPI. I would have followed the standard application process at the time, which may not have given me sufficient information to decide whether or not PPI was appropriate in my case.
At the date at which I was sold PPI, I was self-employed, trading under my own name, and at the time I was working as an IT contractor for xxxxxxxx. Being self-employed, the quantity of work varied, but it was considered a full-time position and I would have averaged well in excess of 35 hours/week. Similarly, I no longer have records of what my take home pay was at the time; I would have quoted it accurately on my application form. If this is no longer available, I believe I would have made approximately £xxxxxxxx that year.
The name of my employer was xxxxxxxxxxxxx. I do not have a precise date as to when I started my contract for them and cannot confirm whether my contract was renewed or extended before being sold PPI.
I was not a student at the point when the policy was sold to me. I was not part of an employer sick pay scheme and was not entitled to any redundancy scheme at the point when the policy was sold to me.
Yours sincerely,
xxxxxxxxxxx"
Thank you for any assistance you can provide!0 -

Only you can re-write it as valid and compelling...0 -

Egg had a pre ticked box for adding PPI between certain dates. I don't know exactly when that was but I think it was in its early days, so the first few years of the card, prior to 2001.
You could add that you weren't sure if the box was pre ticked or not, but you felt the blurb that went with it advised you to take it out. If you look at the pages available, terms and conditions will be in there somewhere.
I would bypass Barclays and send your complaint ot the FOS now, and ttake out the last three paragraphs of your complaint.
If you want to send it back to Barclays, go ahead, but remember you have six months from their rejection to go to the FOS [ if you had a leaflet telling you this in your response from them then they have given their final response, so go to the FOS]Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Dear all,
I would greatly appeciate a little steer here please...
I know I MAY have been miss-sold PPI as a student and subsequently - going back to the mid to late 90's. I do not have all the information I need on which accounts, loans or credit cards I had back then. Is there a resource you can use to check what loans or accounts you once had ( I change often to get the bvest deals and hence I really cannot recall which cards or loans I had).
Flexiloan or similar comes to mind, and I may have had PPI on an HSBS/Midland credit card - but please could someone guide me to a resource (if indeed one exists) where I can check - do I just go to HSBC and request OLD statements to check which loan this was and ask for old credit card statements?
Many thanks in advance - I've left it too long but want to attempt some recovery if possble.

Thank you and sorry to be a little slow but by credit files do you mean credit history - i.e. do Experian et al save all information for this long (i.e. back to the 90's)?
