  • Hopefully you won't actually need to go through the courts at all so don't worry about that as yet and do it yourself.

Im not on the banks side but it does seem wrong to me that people can claim the charges back when they went outside of the terms and conditions.
The charges are excessive but nothing was hidden. I feel the credit worthy are having now to suffer because of some very foolish people.

Thats fair enough, but as I have posted in another of my posts my father passed away last year and as I had been looking after him all I was getting was £45 a week from the goverment to do this. The minute he passed away this stopped, so I had no income and no money in the bank with a funeral and other things to pay for, including charges on my account. I wrote to the bank to advise them of the problems I was having but they were not interested and my debt spiraled out of control with many charges month after month. Thanks very much nationwide. All I'm trying to say is it's not always foolish people who find themselfs in this position thanks.

What an awful story. You're quite right it's not just foolish people who find themselves in this position. It can happen to anyone.

What about the horror stories we've all read such as where young couples with kids struggling to make ends meet get into serious debt through bank charges just because the only breadwinners wages are paid into the bank a day or 2 late just as the mortgage or council tax D/D is due. There are thousands of stories like this.

Notorious follow the guidelines on MSE or the Consumer Action Group website & you should be OK. Read everything 3 times, & then read it again just to make sure!

It is unlawful for the banks to make a profit from these charges.

Stick at it & if you need a hand to hold PM me.

  • Just my take on it guys.

I went through a very expensive divorce about 6 years ago. I was absolutely wrecked financially and, despite several begging/pleading meetings with my bank manager, the most the bank gave me was sympathy (and, of course, substantial bank charges!).

Therefore (and whilst I actually agree with Mabel in principle), I feel justified in exercising my right to reclaim charges.

Six years on I'm doing very nicely thank-you with no debt besides the mortgage.

So bye-bye LloydsTSB, hello Halifax (who, btw, want to give me £100 for moving my £3k pm salary to them).

The only thing LloydsTSB will be having from me in future is letters (and maybe even bailiffs!)

Fat lady with glasses??? I must have been watching the wrong programme.. I saw a lady with glasses, but she was nowhere near what you might describe as fat!!! ;)

  • I am one the wronged by the bank people too . I am disabled i have me/cfs and struggle on a daily basis to just get out of bed , and i use the internet to chat to freinds shopping and all sorts really . But last year i was very much put off , because someone had found out my bank details and started to take 10p 20p 30p 40p 50p out of my bank account and there was at least 40 of these withdrawals on my account i to this day do not know who did them . My bank account was empty when these trasnactions happened so as you can imagine i was charged a heck of a lot of money by the bank for someone taking all this money out of my bank account . To cut a long story short i went to the police phoned the bank got details of the transactions canceled the card and all the right things , but natwest being natwest they didnt take it very far and said because of my family (ie husband) knowing my bank details they were not able to refund any of the charges or continue with the investigation . I am now over £1000 in the red and its all because someone was using my bank details by defraud .

The good news is i am claiming all the charges back now and asking for the default notice to be removed . So it just goes to show that some people no matter how well the use their money the banks are just money grabbers and its time they stood and told us all what the overdrawnness of an account really do cost them .

We have to live on benefits because of my illness and my husband is my carer so all these charges really upset our lives even more than it already is .
So please think before you go saying that other people are paying for someone not using money wiseley because we have to .

I was SOOOOO willing you on and getting all excited at the thought of seeing bailiffs moving into the bank. I've been too scared to actually do this because of the thought of actually going to court, but this programme gave me hope.....you were fab!!!
