I would gladly go elsewhere, even drive the hour journey to get to our nearest Asda if they had a clubcard.

Sadly we dont have an Aldi a lot of the stuff in Lidil is cr*p and foreign and full of fat and stuff I cant read on the label as its not in English. We dont have an Aldi or Netto our local coop is expensive and only stocked with stuff I dont want at a corner conveinience shop and the next closest supermarket is Sainsburys which to be honest I would chose to stay at Tesco than shop there.

The majority of our area voted for an Asda when asked which they prefered on announcing a new superstore plot was approved. The local council approaved another Sainsburys (within walking distance of Tesco and Lidil) and an uproar continues!

    :D

I have not bought a bad thing from Lidl, although I only buy my meat from the farm butchers now, so cannot comment on it. Everything else, jams, tinned goods, cleaning stuff, bin bags, sweets, cooked meats etc, better than asda and cheaper. Fresh fruit and veg is good but doesnt keep like Sainsbury's stuff does. Asda's produce doesnt keep too well either, same as Morrisons. Sainsbury's stuff is really good quality.

Ingredients are in english on all products, just have to look for them. Granted sometimes you need your magnifying glass, but they are there.

I like Aldi and Lidl but...

Their pseudo brands are usually available in Tesco under the value label at the same price.

I appreciate you feel let down, but have a sense of proportion. Not having a sense of proportion is probably one of the rudest thing you can do here by the standards of this board!
Not quite sure what makes you think I don't have a sense of proportion. Neither can I see where I have been rude. I have just told it how it is, and what I intend to do about it i.e. cut up my Tesco Clubcard and escape their tentacles.

Loyalty cards are a very successful marketing tool and escaping from them is almost on a par with escaping earth's gravity because there is always the next few point tokens falling on the doormat to entice you back in the store.

Only in circumstances which are equally (or more) in my favour, and even then only when there is little or no choice. ;)

I'm pretty sure they were referring to the flouncy way you posted, use of exclamation marks and unnecessary statement that Tesco exist to make a profit - of course they do, they're a business :)

Business only interested in making profit headline shocker!!
Do you remember what happened to Ratners?

Empires rise and fall over the decades.
The same will happen to Tesco one day. It's just a question of when.:j

    Unlikely.

Tesco know what they are doing.

They will be aware of how many customers they will lose for every unpopular decision they make and balance the loss in revenue with the gain in profit from implementing that decision.

The fact they are Britain's largest retailer is clear evidence that they are getting that correct.

Isn't this the "Praise, Vent and Warnings" board where we try to help each get bargains while avoiding the sharks?

Surely the odd exclamation mark is allowed without being accused of being rude? ;)

Woolworth had an empire many years ago, as did the Romans.

    Same will happen to Tesco......eventually.

    That's probably true.

Just remember that it will probably happen in several decades, not within the next few years.

Problem is, if there's no competition and they all act like arses, how can people vote with their feet?

I have that problem where I live. I have a 15+ mile round trip to the town centre and there is only Tesco, and more recently Aldi. Unfortunately Aldi don't do everything I need so I have little choice but use Tesco.

My next nearest supermarket is Asda but that is nearly 15 miles each way so unless I'm going that way for something else I can't justify the petrol to go there.
