I don't know what mickey mouse tools you use, but my booster pack will certainly start anything that is mechanically startable!

Any £750 banger is likely to have short or no test, no tax and need a service and some new tyres so replacing those on this model would not be an extra expense.
:rotfl: Plenty of decent cars with 12 Months MoT available with some tax for £750, that is quite a lot of money in bangernomics terms.

Tools have nothing to do with it and FYI I had one of the early booster packs before the cheap less powerful ones became common place. I tried to jump start a 900cc Fiesta popular one night that had become completely drained. It wouldn't do it.

Partially discharged yes it would. Totally flat, (as in not even a light on the dashboard) and no it won't do it. The only substitute is another CAR BATTERY not a booster.

FYI, my mickey mouse tools consist of a socket set, ratchet spanners, 2 vortex sets, a 2 ton long reach folding engine crane, 750Kg load leveller (imported I might add as clarke do a max of 500Kg) plus various others. Care to continue insulting?

  • Definitely needs new tyres as I wouldn't be surprised if only on 20k miles it still has original 1994 tyres which almost certainly will be cacked and perished rubbber by now as well as having been flat spotted

That alone probably makes it economicaly not worth doing once you have bought new battery and oil service as absolute minimum and MOT'd it

Agreed tyre's are likely to be the originals and in Europe they'd be illegal (afaik), but the condition depends on the storage conditions, if kept cool and away from the elements, they'll probably be "OK".... Especially if they're a quality brand.

It's heat and UV that primarily wrecks tyres, sapping out the phthalates that keep the rubber flexible.

Mk 3 Fiesta, I'm afraid it's probably not worth spending a lot on, even with 20,000 miles, unless it' in pristine condition.

I wish people would stop banging on about what its worth.

The op has asked if it would be possible to get it running again, not for financial advice telling them to scrap it.

It's probably got sentimental value too.
  • Thanks for the replies so far. It's a 1.1 Fiesta LX 5 door. Based on what people are saying, it's probably not going to be worth us trying to get it roadworthy ourselves as we have no skill/knowlege/experience - or tools. Therefore to buy a new battery, change the tyres, oil and service etc would mean quite an outlay. I'm thinking it's probably wiser to sell it as a project for someone with know-how to do up. What's the current value of such a car in this condition? I tried searching online but most sites decline to quote as its pre 1996.
