Avios Points Boosting guide discussion

Flyertalk may be worth a visit as there are many knowledgable exec club members there (the ba forum). I'm assuming that the only activity on your ba account over the last 3 years from either what were ba miles or avios was the transfer of these avios, and it may be that transfers are excluded as activity on the account. If this is the case you will probably find it very difficult to get the expired avios returned, as it is very easy to keep an account active (purchase through estore etc). I would suggest you put something in writing to plead your case (after consulting the flyertalk experts)0

I don't think transfers count - otherwise people would simply transfer 1000 avios between BAEC and avios to keep accounts active indefinitely.
Sounds like your miles/avios expired due to inactivity over 3 years, and you've done well to get them reinstated. If you've got any activity in your account within 3 years your 45k avios will be safe.
Beware however, that due to taxes and fees using avios to buy an economy transatlantic ticket makes them nearly worthless (unless you are buying at last minute, or want a fully-flexible ticket).Legal team on standby0 -
This is an interesting one because, as others state, BAEC terminate accounts where there is no activity over a period of 36 consecutive months. However, I've certainly been able to avoid this in the past, in the case of one of my family members BAEC account, by purchasing BA Miles for their account.
The T&C read as follows:
3.12. Membership will terminate automatically:
3.12.1. in the event of the expiry of all Avios Points in accordance with Clause 12.3 when a Member has not earned or redeemed Avios Points or purchased or transferred Avios Points in accordance with the appropriate Conditions of Use for 36 consecutive months....
12.3. If a Member has not earned or redeemed Avios Points or purchased or transferred Avios Points in accordance with the appropriate Conditions of Use for 36 consecutive months, all Avios Points that has accrued to that date will expire.
My own interpretation would therefore be that, due to the transfer of Avios into the account, the account should have remained open.
It would be worth asking BAEC specifically about this point, but, as I say, that is my personal interpretation, but there may well be some other ruling in the T&C somewhere else, on either the BAEC or Avios sites (maybe regarding appropriate Conditions of Use), that covers why they have acted in this way.
[EDIT] One other thing that I just thought about - Although you transferred the Avios in April, 2012 and they were "expired" in May, 2012, when would the 36 months with no activity on the BAEC account have ended (if indeed that is the case of course)? Could it be that maybe the 36 month period with no activity ended prior to April, 2012 (before you transferred the Avios), but BAEC's system only "expired" them in May (after you transferred them)? Just a thought. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0 -
Update:
Please note that my BAEC account is constantly having AVIOS via my BA Amex card usage.
I was advised to use the combine function between AVIOS and BAEC by the AVIOS customer Services. It was setup in my wife's name as she had the TESCO account.
I have now telephoned BAEC and they say there is no reason they should have expired. These AVIOS should be included as part of the BAEC Household account.
What they are now suggesting is that someone has made a standard reply without reading the facts.
I wait to see what happens. I just wish I'd been able to add them to my account in the first place.
Doh! Just realise I could have editted my original post.....0 -

By far the easiest way to boost up your Avios is getting an Amex credit card.
The no brainier option at the moment is the Amex gold card. Amex is waiving the fee for the first year (normally £125), and all you need to do to qualify for the sign up bonus is spend £1000 on the card in 3 months. Basically, if you have £1000 of spend coming up, you get the sign up bonus for free.
Signup bonus is 20,000 MR points which can be transferred to Avios on a 1-1 basis. BUT if You go via a referral link, you get 22,000 points.
The only requirement is that you don't currently have an Amex card.
You can check out my blog at goingonrewards for referral links. The blog is all about exacting the maximum value out of reward programmes, with the first couple of entries having a big focus on Avios/tesco.0 -

.
How strange :
I reported the above post for shamelessly promoting his blog and trying to get free Avios in return.
And my post is goneSo was his -original posted last night)

So-Back to original warning.
Do NOT use his blog for referal :eek:
If you go via Quidco they will pay you £20 (was £60 earlier) to sign up for this FREE card (promo for first year) and you can get 20K Amex MR which then can be changed to Avios or plenty of other FF points.
Nuff said.0 -

Theres a deal on the Avios site where you are getting 2 Avios per £1 reload on the Avios Cash Passport up till 28 Aug.
https://www.avios.com/collect/avios-cash-passport/avios-cash-passport?from=homehero&banner=hmeCashPassportDouble&per=false
On the GB card its 2% to reload via phone or online which makes the cost of 1000 avios £10 (pretty good)
HOWEVER
On flyer talk it was suggested, if you transfer onto the card via bank transfer it is FREE. If you could cycle £500, 2 twice a week over 6 weeks this would be 12000 Avios.
Has anyone tried reloading via bank transfer?0
