  • Dunno, but you will be better using it with a headset or at least a microphone of some description , headsets tend to block out exteraneous sound (depending on their design) I believe the premium does include a headset.

Thank you. I was going to get a headset anyway, as I use a laptop and so only have the rubbish built in mic.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Standard Home edition and the Premium edition?
About a factor of 2 in price, to judge from this webpage! Amazon UK gives more editions than you can shake a stick at.

Have a look at the feature comparison PDF.

I suggest you get a headset which contains a decent noise-cancelling microphone. A quick scan of the Dragon website doesn't reveal any suggestions, though.

If you want I can get you an opinion on Thursday from a volunteer at the charity where I work, whose husband is blind and uses Dragon <something> -- if I remember correctly he was quite impressed.

Thank you so much for your help.

I would much appreciate it if you could get an opinion from the person you work with. :) Thank you so much.

Dragon's great, very accurate. Even the free Dragon Dictation app for the iPhone / iPad is very accurate, the proper Dragon on a real computer is even better.

    Thank you.

It sounds like a good investment then and I think it would definitely help me with my day to day typing as it exhausts me quite alot.

Our volunteer tells me that her husband thinks that Dragon is "brilliant". It does have some trouble with technical terms (presumably until it's been trained on them?) and with various numeric forms like fractions.

Don't rush out and get a headset. I've got a copy of Dragon Dictate, or rather the Mac version labeled MacSpeech Dictate.

The copy I have comes complete with headset, a Plantronics USB headset that is rather good.

I got it from a friend Who is the local supplier for Students getting computers and software via the DSA.

I don't suppose all versions come with a headset but if you do get it via DSA you just might.

It's an excellent piece of software, I got it for evaluation and love it.

Some people have to spend longer training it to understand them but I think it depends on how strong your regional accent is. I didn't have any issues at all. I simply read out the screens as requested during setup and that was it.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have bitten the bullet and ordered it.

Can you use it on MSN and Facebook? And can you use it on any website or program that has text input? E.g. MSE or deviantART?

    Thank you in advance.

I for one would be very interested in what you think of it once you've had a chance to use it for a time!
