Was in my local tesco last night and staff members were reducing clothes and marking them at £1 I very nicley asked if I could have one of the gents teeshirts and was told they were for saturday when I said it seems a bit unfair for folk who cant shop on a Saturday she said they may not be much left as staff will get first refusal seems a bit unfair

Hi. I have it on very good authority (well from my mate who works there:o) that all sale clothes will be reduced to £1 on Saturday.
Shame I won't be able to get there:(
  • What time on Saturday will the items be reduced or will we be able to purchase them after midnight at those stores which are open 24hrs???

What's unfair about that? Doesn't every job have it's own perks?

Your post reminds me of another OP who saw a Tesco member of staff put one digital photo frame (I think it was) aside to buy as they'd gone down massively in price. This OP actually went up to customer services and asked for the frame to be sold to them instead. Gloated about it on here as well.

The money of Tesco staff is just as good as yours.

this needs reporting to head office it is supposed to be a sale to encourage customers to shop there, its about time tesco staff did what they are paid to do and serve customers with a little respect, and not doing just as they please!

no, every job doesnt have perks! a sale is to encourage customers into the store, this happens all too often in tesco, whats the point of having a sale when the stuff does not even hit the shelves!

I do see what you mean and maybe for you it's relatively hassle-free to nip back if there's a problem. Some people possibly make a mountain out of a molehill with issues and can be annoying for the rest of us.

    However...

It depends how easy it is for her to get back to Mr T. Work commitments, children, distance to place, method of transport, whether you're a sprightly 25 year old or someone much older with mobility issues, and so on.

Remember, not everyone finds a trip back to a shop that easy. The return trip would definately be an issue for some individuals, even if it's no biggy for others.

I don't think it's wrong to point that out (with a smile). It helps them improve customer services and it helps other people from having the same issue.

If the lady had a long trip to sort the issue out, I don't see why they shouldn't be offering her recompense for her time and the extra journey. It would be courtesy and a nice goodwill gesture for their mistake.

Me neither - hopefully I didn't suggest that it was, Skintmum didn't elaborate on her personal circumstances which is fine so we can only hazzard a guess at how easy it was for her to return the items.
She has it sorted now though by the looks of it (post further dow) and been recompensated so in answer to her question it was worth complaining.

But some do and this may well be Tesco's idea of a perk. And the point of a sale is to get rid of leftover stock and make way for new items - who cares whether staff members or the public buy it?

All items are online as well, Joe public has the option to also buy by this method.

It just irks me when people are so begrudging of others sometimes, particularly, when we're talking about one £1 t-shirt. Isn't there more to life?

Ummm... Re: my discussion about my order issues with CS last night. The chap told me it was a flash sale to be over by the weekend. Stock in the sale would be replenished and put back to normal price (i.e. you would be able to buy sale items at normal prices). I kind of got the impression that the sale was a ploy in the Great Supermarket Wars, to attract customers in. Not to get rid of surplus stock (otherwise why would they be replenishing their sale stock after the sale?!).

I'm all for perks in jobs but if the staff actually do grab (put aside) just about everything it's pretty naughty. I don't think the sale is for them with the customers then taking the left overs. But I thought that most companies put a stop to this happening, so surely the above example is the exception and not the rule. More likely that the staff that work there get the first opportunities to buy the sale items once they're on the rails, after all, they're working the closest!
