I wanted to echo both these lovely ladies, so great to hear the update...

You are still paying off debt, and you will pick it up again,
As a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or
What does the saying say.... When life hands you lemons, make lemonade
Or as my Mum would say, brush yourself down, tomorrow is another day or
Fake it, to you Make It

Please say hello my new diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6578460/still-dancing-to-blow-the-debt-clouds-away

Thank you all for stopping by!

I've just got home with Superman after he rather splendedly repainted the class room carpet with his lunch :o sofa afternoon it is then and a lovely long extended weekend for him with the 48hr exclusion rule!

I'm firmly on the Slimmingworld wagon.... last week I got my club10 award and I have found a whole new meaning to exercise with Zumba/clubbersize/aqua fit classes :D Loving it! I will get Thinner!! I will get Thinner!! I will get Thinner!!

Missy H is shattered at the moment, she has had rather alot of nasty falls recently but remains chirpy and just gets on with it! I'm meeting with school next week to discuss where to go next in terms of the support she needs. They have been amazing so fingers crossed we can phathom this out together!

I'm contemplating taking over from stepchange and self managing our Dmp for a while, Granny H had left us some inheritence and although it will take a while to arrive (property sale) it will clear all our debts. I am at aloss with my conscious about spending her money to clear debt and keep changing my mind left right and centre about it. The current thought is to self manage on token payments then offer hugely discounted F&F's so I don't feel like I'm "wasting" it.

It is sureal to think that by christmas we could even be debt free even if we don't feel deserving of it.

    How is everyone?!

  • Sorry to hear Superman is poorly. My littlest dude is also off school for 48hrs after redecorating my bed at 1am this morning in the same fashion :(.

Well done on 10% off! And wonderful news that you could be debt free soon. Don't worry about using Granny's money to pay debt, I'm sure she'd be thrilled to know what a huge difference she's enabled you all to make in your lives going forward Xx

Would the money be enough for a deposit on a property? Or somewhere close? If so is there a way you could think about buying your own place within a few years? If there was any chance I'd try to hang on to the monet for your long term security and possibility of a place of your own.

There is enough to clear the debts, get a newer/bigger car (mines done 125k miles and is older than missy H ) and have a huge chunk to save for a deposit...... obviously the cheaper the full and finals the more savings for a deposit. Means though all housing benefit and income support will stop as we will be above the 6k and 16k limits. However I've been saying for a while I feel ready to tackle going back to work so with the debts gone I will only need to work 16hours to be on the even keel and not eat in to the savings. we will of course be limited in buying a house due to my defaults/poor credit but hopefully once its repaired in a few years time maybe just maybe we could get a mortgage. It's what we ulitmately want but haven't really researched the chances of it happening, I would assume we would both need to be working and much more then just part time hours. Something for the future though I think!
