To day we are chilling, tidying, pottering around, pondering and generally just "finishing" things off.

I have made a big pan of veggie/lentil bolagnaise sauce and one of chilli. veggie lasange for lunch and the rest is tubbed up in the freezer. I have about 20 portions of sauce left...... not bad for a few £'s!

    pack of pepers 99p
    pack of mushrooms 94p
    1 large chopped onion 20p
    5 tins of tomatoes £2
2 huge handfuls of lentils 30p
    2 tins of beans 64p
    1tin of kidney beans 24p
    jar of tomato puree 70p
    sprinkle of mixed herbs

we plan on having chilli with rice, spag bol, lasange, enchiladas, chilli cheese toasties, topped nachos and adding in some sausages and topping with some mash and grilled cheese for a hunters pie :rotfl: takes care of 2 meals a week for the next month

the dice steak and veg mix is in the slow cooker ready to be topped with puff pastry and oven baked for tonights steak pie :D the left over puss pastry will be turned in to sausage rolls for master Hinge :j

food budget for Jan 2015 is £65.46/£450 as our money month started on the 28th.

How is everyone else's day looking?

Holy moly. Seriously?!? I am absolutely gobbersmackered that you made such a variety of food out of a tiny amount of stuff. I think I will be following your lead before back to work next Weds!! I need a freezer! A big chest version...

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fab things are happening for all of us in 2015. Haven't you heard? 2014 was poop so everyone decided to make this year far far better :D so far so good in your house and mine :)

My day has been tidying up and clearing out of endless junk, paperwork I didn't need and tidying up my box of medication as it is overflowing and messy and hard to find the pills I need at the right time. Now I am in bed catching up on things here and letting some of aid pills take effect on my ouchy back whilst erasing a thousand plus songs from my external hard drive and going through all of my photos from the last 3 years in anticipation of the new macbook winging it's way to me next week!! :j

Lots of love to you and DH and the littlies. The first day of a new year is always so fresh and clean seeming... :) Shrug off the bad, and in with the good! xxx

    Happy new year Lilt!!

I often add chickpeas too but they are already boiled up and frozen in bags ready to grab when throwing things together. I add chilli flakes, BBQ sauce etc.... To change the flavours but the bases are there. To me they are like the ready meals or the jars of sauces but wth out having all the nasties!

I am glad I have inspired you!

Mrs H ...... Who also needs another freezer :rotfl:

Glad to be of service NP!! I find playing around with the same Ingredients but using them in different ways helps keep the costs down but stops us getting bored!!

Ooh aye, that is my 'fault', bringing people in... I have been singing your praises in GP's diary ;) hahaha!!

You do inspire me. I need to get some caraway/fennel seeds, celery seeds etc to throw into things for flavour but my shops don't stock them locally I find. GP uses them in allsorts! :D

The pair of you make me strive to cook and eat better. Having said that, dinner is one sweet and one normal baked potato with cheese and beans :D
