set fire?! How?! I throw out Mr H's fryer 2 years ago now and have said I wild replace it but never have. In hoping having proper chips to hand will stop him moaning about it having no food:cool:

    Well.............

As you know DH has a neuro issue and is very rarely allowed in the kitchen to cook but one night I went out and I thought he could manage chicken breast and chips (chicken in the oven and chips in an actifry) - what could go wrong??

Well DH puts the chips in the actifry and turns it on, he then proceeds to put it on top of the hob so the steam can go out of the cooker hood - the problem was that he had just put a hob on ready to do beans (aarrggh, beans were not on the menu!!) and of course the actifry just melted and caught fire:eek:

The worst thing was that relative (who used to live with us) had his lounge next to the kitchen but did not even realise there was a fire. It wasn't until DH went back in the kitchen did he find it all:eek:. Relative then says that he could smell something funny but thought nothing of it!!!

Thankfully they didn't tell me while I was out otherwise that could have ruined my evening:rotfl:

Now he is not allowed anywhere near the kitchen unsupervised - and this is part of the reason he gets low rate care of DLA. He is a liability in the kitchen :rotfl:(although most men probably are)
  • Brie and bacon sandwiches are sworn by in this house. ;) bargainous piece though! Well done :)

And I really need to view your shopping receipts please. And your meals.. Because feeding your family on such a low budget amazes me!

we spent around £350-400 a month on food and household stuff including rabbit and cat food..... I think we eat well for that. I shop around at Aldi and Mr A mostly but pop in to the local co-op at reduction times on the way back from school. YS reductions fill the freezer with meat. we cook from scratch most days and make our own pizzas, garlic bread and cakes, biscuits..... Spuds are £5-6 a 25kg sack.

What do you spend a month?

  • Well this month it was £250. And I had budgeted £130 :( but there was quite a lot of carp in there. And my freezer is fit to burst with Mr L's chicken breasts at £5.69 a kilo & stewing steak etc.

I finally know what you mean by not being able to wear socks. Last night had an attack (continuing today) following the winter vomiting bug. My feet were like ice blocks but socks brought tears to my eyes. Felt like my ankles were actually just going to snap. Wrists hot and agonising too. Knees and elbows joining in today. I really feel for you. My sister has fibro and my mama had Lupus. I am hoping not to ever be afflicted with either. Have been ignoring certain things for 10 years now and just getting on with it, but this joint ache is a new problem to me.

    Big hugs!

  • Fingers crossed it is just a viral reaction to whatever was going on. I think I had been incubating the norovirus for a week since Jelly went down with it. To be honest I am on so many pills for this, that and the other I rattle so it could be one of those causing the reaction to being ill. :) I feel a bit better this morning. My wrists were so hot and painful last night they kept going numb when I held them in one place too long. Not fun at all. Major respect and big hugs for you dealing with similar and far worse on a regular basis! Not to mention looking after your family!

:) I made hm lasagne and baked a huge banana loaf last night and they were both gorgeous! You are an inspiration. Now I have leftover lasagne for tea & chicken defrosting for something or other in the slow cooker!! :) xx

The lurgey has hit the house of Hinge over the weekend, all 3 little Hinge's have had runny tummies and very good up-chuck reflexes  Superman and Missy Hinge have gone back to school today as they bounced back as quickly as they took ill on friday.

Master Hinge how ever is really struggling :( he is running on empty since his pneumonia and is picking everything up. The poor little mite looks very skinny and washed out. Duvet day today mummy cuddles and endless snoozing after a very hectic night.

Mr Hinge has been a trooper and is taking really good care of us all.

jobs today are mainly phone calls chasing benefits, hospital appointments, OT's and the housing officer.

I have been doing some thinking about my birthday this month and the big 30  this time of year is always reflective for me :o

  • Oh no, not you guys as well!! My household has been tested with the lurgy twice in a eek. Do not be surprised if, a la the Lilt household you suddenly come down with it yourself in a few days. Poor Master H, I hope he gets better soon and starts putting some weight on. Can't stand to see Jelly when she drops weight due to illness. Big hugs to everyone and enjoy your duvet day and cuddles!!

Funy I was thinking about the big 30 for me too, and yet it is over a year away :o I feel the need to mark it somehow. Maybe a piece of jewellery I have really been hankering after.

    :) Get well soon!!

I think the norovirus is what is causing my flare Lilt, the little hinge's often share with me their germs
