CRT's not much good if you're planning on going to HD though is it?!
I haven't seen many new CRTs that are HD Ready/Compatible.
Space is also an issue....I'm astounded at the extra space created in my living room now... and that's with it still to be wall mounted.0 -
There are a number of new HD ready CRT's which again (imho) represent a better choice.....Consider anything only don't cry!0

Can you honestly say though that the quality is better? I'm really interested to hear people's points of view because there is very much a turning tide as people get sick of seeing a trail left as a football shoots across the screen, I could go on but I'm biased..... I LOVE CRT!Consider anything only don't cry!0 -

As I said in an earlier post, most of the programming is much better - including football.
Watching Fulham v Spurs was crisp, clear and colourful (much like the way Spurs played). No issues with it at all.... not trail of a ball either.
Then again, the AOC has a response time of 6.5 miliseconds, compared to 12 miliseconds on the Woolies ones - that's noticeable.
The AOC does struggle a little on it's default Contrast & Brightness settings when scenes are dark, but it's easy to create a personal setting which generally rectifies the issue.
24 looked fine too........
If anything, switching to LCD takes a little adjustment time. Edges tend to get sharper and it can throw you a little.
That said, I had a Beko 28" CRT beforehand.... purchased 5 years ago for £3000 -

I don't know where you've been looking but I have one of the Tevion TVs from Aldi a couple of years ago & love football & have yet to see a trail. The only trail I've seen is the trench made when people try to carry an old 32" or 36" crt TV to the dustbin.Nice to save.0 -
To my mind the best thing to do is wait. To buy anything less than a set which supports 1080p is something you will eventually come to regret and will cost you dear, literally, as when you see it, you will want to have it.
Wait until at least the majority of what you want to watch is available at this level as otherwise, if you work it out on a per view basis, you are paying for something you can't take advantage of to your benefit.
Personally, I will wait at least until just before the analog signal is turned off in my area, another 3 to 4 years yet. I will get more use out of my current set, which should last at least that length of time as it is only about 6 or 7 years old currently and has a good picture and prices will be a lot lower. I reckon almost on a par with current non-hidef sets.
The only reason you should have for increasing Sony or Panasonic's etc., profit margin is if your current set is literally on the way out.

On Saturday I managed to buy an Acoustic Solutions 32" HD LCD with built in Freeview for £399.99 from Argos. They are in the Clearance Bargains, and when I looked were not available to buy online for home delivery. I had to hunt online round the local shops to find one that had some. I ended up driving about 50 miles but I am very pleased with ti so far. Haven't seen a 32" HD with Freeview anywhere else that cheap.... but no doubt somebody will tell me!0

IS it just me or is the picture quality on the LCD & Plasma screen much worse than the old big TV's?
Watching football and other fast moving images in particular it seems the LCD's sturggle - a football apprears more like a fuzz rather than a well defined spherical object.
The only advantage of the LCD & Plasma screens is that they save space. But in terms of actual picture quality I've yet to be convinced."To be ignorant of one's ignorance is the malady of the ignorant." Amos Bronson Alcott0
