First off, I don't need your permission to make a post, secondly I do have a good quality LCD TV in my bedroom, it doesn't even come close to my CRT in my living room.
I have 20/20 vision, so may I suggest that it is you that is myopically challenged..
Only reply if you have bought an LCD & compared it in your own home NEXT TO a crt of which BOTH are properly set up. You would then have to agree with me or get a pair of glasses.
Again you havn't done a fair comparison, & I doubt if you ever will.Nice to save.0 -
Just thought I'd add my two pence worth on this thread as I've been in two minds about an LCD tv for months now. With the constant discussions about which has the better picture between CRT & LCD, and whether or not it's worth paying the extra couple of hundred for a "known make" or not, it has been a confusing decision.
As it happens my girlfriend wanted to get one for her place too, so we both went for the plunge. I ended up going for the Toshiba 32WL66 from Digital Direct listed on another thread for £479, and I'm very pleased with the set. Compared to my 28" crt all I can say is that the picture is different. Watching Sky is not quite as sharp, but games, PC and DVD's are all much improved with the new set. To be honest after watching a program on sky for about 15 minutes you don't even think about the difference in quality between CRT & LCD as the difference is so small. I can recommend the set and Digital Direct.
However, my girlfriend went for the Hanspree 32" from Intekx for £357.50 as she didn't want to spend the extra. I have to say that this is the set that is most value for money! The set is very close to the quality of the Toshiba, it's well built and has a lovely picture. With a little tweaking of the settings the picture was improved further still. Hand on heart I'm not sure that the Toshiba is £130 better. One of the most impressive things about this TV was the service from the seller. Intekx were fast to respond to all my queries before the sale, numerous emails detailing the order process and received the set the next day as promised. I was a bit wary of a company that uses Paypal to take payment for goods and to those that are put off with the idea there is nothing to worry about.
All in all I'm very very happy I made the move to LCD, and so is my girlfriend. I hope this helps someone to make a decision that isn't one of the easiest at the moment. If not then at least it's a short review of the televisions we bought.
Sorry I haven't added the links to the tv's but they are on the first page of the thread.

One big thing to look out for is companies that have a dead pixel policy!!
A dead/stuck pixel is basically when you have a red/green/blue/black pixel constantly on your screen!
Some companies have a policy stating that the set will not be replaced unless it had 5 or more of these pixels dead or stuck!
Just a warning and it may help a few people out!0 -
For anyone looking for decent wall brackets, I recommend checking out Maplin at the moment.
The AOC 32" isn't VESA compatible, so it's difficult to find a big enough bracket for a relatively cheap price (Argos £89.99).
We finally found one on sale in Maplin for £39.99 - down from £69.99.
It's got a tilt mechanism built in too, which is ideal.
However, the instructions are wrong!!!
It says to use a 10mm drill bit to fix the bracket up. However, when you put the rawl plugs in, they come straight back out if you pull them. Obviously this means that the TV will come down in seconds.
We tried a 9mm drill bit and it's gone up nice and tight.
As for Palman and his list.... you try and find a CRT TV with even half of that - most are just 2 scarts and an aerial socket.
The AOC does have the following though:
hdmi for ps3
component for xbox 360
composite for camcorder / ps2
svideo for camcorder
a decent audio volume
ntsc playback
pip nice extra
true hd quality 1080 not 768 res.0 -

I received Hanspree's policy before purchasing and is as follows:-
bright(R,G or= 3
pair bright dots = 1
dark(R,G or= 9
pair dark dots = 2
The 37" only needs 2 bright pixels to be classified as a warranty claim.
