DH did not get the job I told yous about but a small job, which will bring in an extra £130 a month came his way, with a possibility of some extra hours :j:j:j

    AND

I have been awarded Rent Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. In total they add up to £290 a month :j:j:j. But now have to ring them to let then know about DH part time job. It states in letter that first £27.50 of your earning is not accountable, but don't know if this is joint or separate. So DH may not make that much difference, but however it turns out, we have extra money coming in.

    :)

Well done on DH getting a job :T

The £27.50 is joint so only one of you gets it take off their income.

If you look at the notification letters they sent you, you can then add in DH's income and work out how much you will get still.

Basically for every £1 you earn/have over your applicable amount(the amount you need to live on) the council deduct 65p off any Housing Benefit and 20p off any Council Tax Benefit so....

I make £130 per month - £30 per week so if he earns this you will have £19.50 per week taken off your Housing Benefit and £6.00 off your Council Tax Benefit.

And of course if he does overtime you have to take in his payslip.

I often tell my clients (on HB/CTB) to only keep their basic hours otherwise for a minimum wage job they are only earning less than £1 per hour if they do extra.

If you need any help let me know.
  • Eager_Elephant Thank You very much for that information. DH has not got a start date yet. They have told him, they hope to give him a date, next week. At least with your information I can work on, more definite budgets.

I will be doing this today. Payday tomorrow and payday loan will be gone. I have rang them and they are taking full amount.

    :)

Payday loan gone :j BUT I feel really down ? I have cut myself way way down to clear it. Using my £300 benefit money and £150 of my wages.

Soooooo things are really really really tight. But on the bright side, in 3 weeks time  how do i reach that point. I will be an extra £100 ( interest on PDL) on top of my £300 benefit and DH has started his little job. So will be that up in 4 weeks too.

!!! there is nooo pleasing me. I should be feeling on top of the world.......but i don't.

OK winge over, time to get on with it.

    :)

P.S. Contacted Benifits Dept, they will reajdust my Benifits.

    Hi
Couldn't read and run. The feeling a bit down after clearing a debt or reaching a financial milestone is common to DFW's as far as I can tell. You need to refocus on what you've achieved. So  as you've achieved one of your goals

MWNM, well done on getting rid of your pay day loan.

In you debt busting plans have you included rewards for yourself when you clear your debts (or parts of them), some thing free or low cost that you will enjoy, I think for me it would be something like my favourite chocolate bar, a pot of tea, a good book and some peace and quiet.

Have you set your next goal? so you have something to continue aiming for.

I think some of the problem maybe the fact you have paid out all this money now but their won't be any noticeable benefit for a little while.

According to your signature you have paid off about 25% of your debt :j

I'm impresses by you getting rid of that bad bit of debt. But I'm even more impressed with the weight loss. I think if you made lots of goals along the way with rewards it would be easier.

  • Thank You Short Bird, Baileys Babe and Whizzing and my constant support Friend too.

Yes I must reward myself :j. I am just knuckling down and working hard on every aspect of my life in which I want to make changes. I am scared of letting loose of the reins Incas I go berserk. As I have done many many times in the past.

I know I need to be more positive and trust myself as I cant live the rest of my life like this. Maybe it Will become easier ?.

Next plan, is to pay more towards my provident loan. I dropped my payments from ££100 month  to £50 when DH was on no pay. I can now put this back up to £100, that will be cleared in 5 month, maybe less if I pay a bit more.

And finally I can also make a start on paying my friend back. :j. I think of this debt everytime I see her, which is usually every week.

I will think of some treats :j.

Thank You Whizzing for comments on my weight loss. I am using a free calorie count program Oline and it syncs with my phone, both are free :money:.

    Hi money

I have just had a read through your diary and it is a lovely read. Very easy to read too. I laughed out loud when I read about you measuring the bubble bath, not because I thought it was a bad idea but because I thought I was the only person who did that! I love the idea (and name) of the sparkle fund.

I just want to say, you are doing so well, just keep going. Five years ago I was a single parent living in a cr!!py council flat with yukky debts, next to no money coming in and no idea how to get out of the situation. Fast forward to today and I am debt free (since 1st December 2011), have my own house (mortgage and shared equity with a HA) and I pay all my insurances yearly in advance. It can be done.

When I became debt free 5 1/2 months ago I had reached the ultimate goal that I had. I did feel quite down after that. I should have been rejoycing but I couldn't shake the low feeling. I didn't even post on the debt free roll of honour for a couple of months because I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I feel so much better now. I am able to put proper money into savings. I have to give myself a slap on the wrist now and again when I notice myself slipping but all in all, it is good.

Hard work and determination are key. You sound like you have a good grip on yourself. Just keep reminding yourself you will get there. Don't beat yourself up for having some hiccups along the way.

    ((((hugs))))
