Phones4u porting to O2
Hi
I'm currently on Virgin and thinking of moving to O2 with Phones4U. Their web page says "We currently only support number porting when transferring to T-mobile, Orange, Three, Virgin and BT Mobile, but not Vodafone or O2.".
Does this mean that it's not possible to port to O2 when buying from Phones4U, or does it just mean I'll have to sort it out myself?
Many Thanks
Nick

Thanks for that,
so if I got a phone from Phones4U on the web and then called up O2 asking to port my existing number (and supplying them with the PAC) I wouldn't be able to do it? It seems strange that it's ok if you buy from the shop but not from the web. I take it there is no way around this?
Cheers

I phoned Phones4U yesterday about porting my current Vodafone number to O2. They said that I have to just call up O2 after I receive the mobile and sim and they'll port my number. I hope I havn't been given the wrong information by Phones4U.0

If a number is ported after a connection has been made then O2 could clawback any commission paid to the dealer. You may want to read this thread regarding the same issue with Dialaphone.
DAP now accept ports to O2 but you must contact them before the order is placed. I would have thought this would be the same for P4U. I'd be interested to know the outcome if you go ahead.0 -
For anyone who's interested:
I went ahead with the phones4u contract, as there was nothing on the website that said you couldn't port yourself (just said "we cannot arrange to Port your number on Vodaphone and O2 for website sales).
Everything seemed ok when it came in the post, nothing about not porting so have arranged it myself with O2. Then I got my cashback form from p4u this morning and in the terms and conditions there it says you must "ensure that the mobile phone number on the (6th month) airtime bill submitted with your application corresponds with the mobile phone number on this claim form", which wouldn't be the case after porting
However I've just called p4u and they tell me that this clause isn't valid and they know they can't stop me porting, so the cashback won't be an issue, so am not too worried. They won't send me anything in writing or email confirming this though so am considering complaining to their head office or ofcom - does anyone think this is worthwhile, or shall I just trust what I've been told (I've got the name of the person I spoke to, and a reference number and she says she's put a note on my file).

I'm in the same boat as you, i'm going to give them a bell today and will let you know if i have the same reply. I don't think i'll be to comfortable with just a verbal agrement though and will try and push for written confirmation.0

Thanks for the info.0 -
It took 2 weeks to port my o2 payg number to o2 contract, very long winded but we got there in the end, will post back when its time to claim my cashback.0

When purchasing from Phones 4 U you have 14 days to port your number across to O2. If you don't do it within 14 days then you won't be able to.
If its a O2 payg number to O2 contract then its a migration and only takes up to 48 hours. Any credit on the sim gets transferred to the contract (e.g. £10 credit means first bill on a £25 p/m tariff is £15).
Other reason for the website to state the terms is that they are gearing up for April 1st - when P4U can no longer sell new o2 contracts (can still do upgrades)0
