Porting to O2 through Dialaphone
Options
On December 15th I cancelled my contract with 3 and obtained a PAC. I intended to take out a O2 contract through Dialaphone but today I discovered that Dialaphone can't port numbers to O2.
I phoned 3 again to cancel the PAC (and give another 30 days notice of cancellation) but the chap from 3 seemed very helpful. He said that if I took out the new contract through Dialaphone, once I received the new handset, I could contact O2 directly and use the PAC that 3 have given me.
Is he right?
Thanks in advance.

I have taken a O2 contract with Dialaphone before and they don't port numbers for O2 contracts and also O2 also doesn't do that.
But if you take an O2 contract thru CPW or E2save they allow porting.0 -
I've just had a look on the O2 website and in their FAQ it says that you can bring your number with you. Whether they will allow this if you didn't buy the phone from them is another question. I'll probably go ahead and try it.0

If you are purchasing an O2 (or Vodafone) contract from a dealer the PAC must usually be supplied when the contract is ordered and before the connection is established.
Because O2 and Vodafone ports require some effort by the retailer, many choose not to facilitate these or instead charge a small admin fee.raj75 wrote:But if you take an O2 contract thru CPW or E2save they allow porting.

Not a good idea! This will only apply if you are buying direct from O2. Though technically possible, if you attempt to port after the connection has been made via DAP then O2 will clawback the commission paid to DAP. DAP will then pass this clawback charge on to you.

Thanks for the info Mark. I can see that O2 may/will refuse to port the number after I've bought the phone from DAP but assuming for a minute that the number was ported, there is no way that DAP could clawback anything from me because the contract does not allow them to do this and doesn't prohibit number porting.
Anyway, I've ordered a phone from DAP. My wife and I have bought our phones through them for a few years and we use each others accounts to "recommend a friend" and save another £20The phone will arrive on Thursday so I'll try and port the number then. If not I'll just have to give another 30 days notice on my old 3 account

O2 wouldn't port the number when they found out the phone was bought through Dialaphone.
On the bright side, after a lengthy chat with 3, I managed to persuade them to rescind the PAC and start my 30 days cancellation notice from the date the PAC was issued rather than today.0 -

Or alternatively, just use the PAC & port to a PAYG sim with any network. That way you keep your number for a bit longer until everyone has def got your new number.
You could even have a voicemail message on the original number telling callers of new one if you wanted...0 -
Ohhhh dear. I ordered a phone on O2 from Dialaphone yesterday. I phoned O2 beforehand and asked why I wasn't able to port from Dialaphone. The guy un Customer Services assured me that I can by calling them once I've bought the phone.
Oh well, I'll give it a go anyway and let you know how I get on...0 -

It just means that I won't have to give a fresh 30 days notice. 3 will honour the original cancellation date of 16th Dec when the PAC was issued.0
