    Hi

The price from MFI was for Space Cream units and handles only. The worktops, equipment and wirework all were purchased elsewhere.

I understand from an earlier post that Howdens do a similar range called Glendevon Cream (although the handles are different, I think).

    Hope this helps

Many Thanks for your reply, Do you have quite a large kitchen, because the price you were given seems a lot better then what I have been quoted (£7400.00 this is cabinets and worktop) even though you once excluded the worktop.

The price i have been quoted supposedly has a 70% discount, but seems very pricey.

    My kitchen is 15 foot.

    Hi,

This is a message for apennysaved, me and my husband are very keen to have the MFI space white kitchen but were a little dissapointed after getting a Quote from them yesterday for £7400.00 - this was jusr for the kitchen units and laminate worktop, with appliances it came up to £12500.00.
I just wanted to find out if the price you brought your kitchen was for the space cream as you mentioned in your previous posting?
Also did you go to Howdens? do you know if they do the space range?
    Many thanks.

Also how did you manage to get such a huge dicount from the orginal price of £5600.00?

I had a quote on the weekend from my local MFI for a Space Cream kitchen.
I can't remember the whole spec, but basically -

2 x 500 larder units, 1 with pull out larder
    1 x 1.5 oven enclosure
    1 x 800mm double drawer unit
1 x Franke Sink, including swan neck tap and wastes
1 x pull out corner unit
    2 x 600 hi line units
    1 x 500 4 drawer unit
    1 x 800 corner unit
    walnut worktop.
    walnut plinth
    3 x end panels (2 full height)

There were other units, but I can't remember them, not too many more though, as we didn't have any wall units included. Our kitchen is 6m long, we had units all along one wall. Came in at approx £4900. The more costly things are the non-standard units like the larders and 800 double drawers.

I'm still waiting for the howdens quote.

Hope this helps at least give you some idea!

Thanks, I will ask my builder to get me quote anyway.:p

Howdens will offer you a design service, I've found that they ask for the name of your tradesperson before arranging. Some people have found they only send the pricing to the builder, but the guy I had from Howdens said he'll send it direct to me. I found the designer from Howdens far more helpful than the MFI person.

Personally, I would source the appliances myself. There was a thread on here not so long ago from someone saying they were much more expensive for the appliances. They can do bosch, but I think mostly they do stuff like Diplomat. The fact you're using this forum means you're handy enough on the internet to search and purchase cheaper ;)
  • well I just paid for a kitchen today - I actually paid the deposit in Dec 06 but did not move into mynew home til March 07. I had to move the delievry and pay day forward 3 times. Anyway I bought all my applicances
    bosch hob,
bosh double oven (free bosh dishwasher and flip down tv)
    franke sink (no tap) and
    units for galley kitchen
    ss extractor

    for £3599

The funny thing is that this initally started at £5390 therabouts and I went in twice and each time the price got lower. I bought finally in the Dec end of year sale.

I am hoping to buy taps and wastes from IKEA. I am alsi tryingto find a good kitchen fitter.
  • oh and jamocha work tops pliths etc and guarantees
  • Hi All

For info this was my order:

    1 x 600 Fridge freezer tower
    1 x 300 Larder tower
    3 x 1150 base
    2 x 600 base
    1 x 600 3 drawer base
    4 x 1000 half height wall units
    3 x 300 wall units
    2 x 400 wall units
    2 x 600 wall units
    3 x plinth
    7 x cornice/pelmet
    1 x 450 appliance door
    2 x 600 appliance doors
    3 x 300 decor ends
2 x full height decor ends

    Total price paid £2950

Everything else was bought elsewhere - it's much, much cheaper if you shop around!

    Bamboo worktops, Hardwoodfloorstore.co.uk, 3 x 40mm x 3m - £675 (MFI £1380)
Sink & Taps, Gibbs & Dandy - £250 (MFI £450, like for like).
For equipment check out Trade Appliances and City Appliances on the internet. They are competitive and will price match, so haggle... but check & double check delivery dates. You have to keep on at them.

Also, took advice from this website and put all the above on a M & S credit card - interest free until Jan '08 (will then pay all off).

The icing on the cake - I'm selling the old kitchen units on Ebay. With 7 hours to go, it's bid up to £485! The buyer collects, so I don't even have to dispose of the old stuff!
    5.2kW (13 x Hyundai 400w), SSE, Central Bedfordshire. Panels installed Dec 2021. Hyundia e-Kona.

Update: my £5100 quote for a kitchen has come down to £3600 (inc fitting) by consulting the trade arm of Betta Living Kitchens. It would appear definitely consulting with the trade division of companies!

I think any company that starts with a price of more than £6,000 then eventually comes down to £3600 (inc Fitting) needs looking into with caution. I'd always shop around or take the Trade division discounted price to a local supplier, they'll explain what the kitchen should be costing you.
